It's my view from what I've seen from less emotive sources.

You are being pedantic. You know exactly what was meant. You stated it as though it was a forgone conclusion, and that no other outcome is possible, whereas, for the reasons I have given, that's untrue.

A distinction without a difference.

It's a very big difference, but it's exactly what Putin wants you to think and seems to be the fundamental reason for your muddled thinking on all of this. Once again we are witnessing the way Russian botnets target the impressionable right, primarily in the USA, which then gets fed into the minds of people who watch their basement video pontifications.

If people have to be conscripted then it's a bit dubious to say they have high resolve and morale.....otherwise they wouldn't need conscription.

I'm not of the view that you force people to fight....on certain fronts it's a practical maim or death sentence.

Sure it's a 'matter for the Ukrainians', however when you force people to fight against their will and they die doing it.....some might find issues with that.

I'm not sure that Putin's aims will be finished by those victory parades, however I don't see the Russians wanting a long war....I see Nato wanting that.

What scares me is what happens once Putin wants to stop but Nato/Ukraine don't.....That's when the scary escalation could happen and I'm obviously selfishly keen that sense prevails.

I saw many very reluctantly saying goodbye to their wives and family, but nevertheless accepting that they had to play their part. The whole country has shown resolve, which is something Putin did not expect.

As Putin's aims remain a mystery, who knows when they will be satisfied. If ever. Degrading his forces to the point where he looks for a way out which can be sold as a victory in Russia seems the least worse option to me.

When Putin decides to stop, it will be Ukraine who decides whether the terms are acceptable. Nato will not be involved. Pressure might be applied by some countries, but not by Nato. Escalation will certainly be avoided at any reasonable cost. It won't be sought.

Been a while since I have posted, I am now back home and been enjoying my 1 1/2 year old who I had not seen for 6 months.

Been a lot going on so gonna be a bit long, I'll break it all down into smaller chunks.

I recently took my first refugee onto my guest floor.

Military age, mid twenties, he arrived late one night & was bit of a mess, holes in his shoes, clearly hadnt slept & was carrying everything he had on his back, I am pretty sure he had scrambled across the border somewhere near Uzhhorod avoiding the border guards in the process.

We put him up in the double room, come the morning he came to complain it was too cold for him, he had apparently sat in front of the oven all night with it on to keep warm, (heating was on all night except for about 3 hours) this while he had his bedroom window open, he told us he wasnt going to stay anymore nights & left heading further West I am assuming to Bratislava & beyond.

Gratitude eh...

The attitude amongst Slovaks (that I have noticed) is usually one of four things.

Why are millions of Ukrainians fleeing west when 80% of the country has seen no fighting?

The odd bit of pro Russian Z graffiti popping up in places, a few people saying how long do we have to tolerate Nazis being in our villages stuff like that.

People genuinely wanting to help.

People very worried the Slovak government (left wing & actually quite hated) are relying too much on NATO.

Dnipro seems to be key.

Russian forces are making slow progress in encircling a large part of Donbas, this in turn will cut off supply routes to the majority of Ukraine's professional & battle hardened army.

Since Russian forces decided to move the offensive entirely into the south east, they have made their lives much easier in defending their ground units (particularly tanks) Logistics whilst still poor are infinitely better than what they were & I saw a while back the Russians had built fuel lines that run into Russian occupied Donbas.
There has been a monumental shift in tactics too.

you can see the slow encirclement for yourself here
[Link]

If/once they have secured this, momentum will shift towards Dnipro & finally onto Odesa.
It remains to be seen if they can achieve this & I actually believe the war will be won or lost in this region in the coming months, if the Russians break Ukrainian resistance Russia will expand out rapidly claiming the majority of their goals.

Providing the West continues to equip & train Ukrainian soldiers time is on Ukrainian side & for them to win they simply need to hold the Russians where they are, Russia will simply run out of decent equipment before the Ukrainians will.

Moldova/Transnistria

It comes as absolutely no surprise to me Russia wants to take a chunk of Moldova for itself, I posted over a month ago that Lukashenko had announced plans for Ukraine to be broken into 4 puppet states & for Russia to invade Moldova.
Clearly the bloke was telling the truth.

The unrest were now seeing in Moldova is at the command of Russia to spread to war to different areas making it harder for the west to manage.

For example see this

Always fire your rpg's at government buidings in broad daylight whilst under surveillance and remember to always leave your evidence behind, absolute f***ing noobs but this seems to be Russian operatives in a nutshell during this war.

This leads me onto something quite funny & sadly mostly missed due to the twitter news.

Apparently Russia foiled an assassination attempt on some public TV figure, a Ukrainian man was arrested carrying a Swastika, photo of Hitler and a load of other crap, the funniest thing however was he was carrying 3 copies of the Sims video game...

Clearly the Russian operative in charge of this false flag had read the instructions & followed them to a T except he should have placed 3 sim cards in stash & not he above.

See here

The Russians actually broadcast this bollocks to its own population

Very insightful and meaningful contributions. Thanks for the considered, balanced take.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Hilarious and as inept as the rest of this Russia operation and propaganda campaign has been.

I'm just glad there are limits to what they are capable of, and that the West will continue to deplete their resources and slow the invasion. This will give them second thoughts going forward. Those who essentially blame the West for this and think we should by proxy lay down our arms and let Russia get on with is are shamefully indoctrinated against the West and willing to turn a blind eye to this abhorrent crusade while attacking those on the receiving end of bombings and significant civilian death.

For someone who professes to know something about logic I find your paragraph somewhat reaching.

Ok, lets look at what you say here. Firstly, the premise that all statements from underlings are planted by the leadership is a nice line in conspiracy but it's unlikely and also unknowable...maybe some are, maybe not.

Secondly, how would you know whether he's been sanctioned or internally criticised or not? You don't. So your conclusion that the Kermlin 'must concur' is a conclusion built upon soft foundation......no granite shoreline for you.

Putin has made stated aims, but instead you are guilty of cherry picking what you wish from a general.....like I've said, lots of generals, lots of statements but for you it's all been put on a plate.

Personally, from my reading of Russia's best interests. I don't see Russia wishing to engage in a long war with multiple fronts. That appears to be something more that Nato would like.

We shall see syrup.

Generals who speak out of turn tend to ‘depart their roles’ immediately in Russia. He did not

Perhaps you also believe the Ukrainians attacked Transnistria…
