He can only exist by selling the consumer what they actually want, not necessarily what the company wants to sell or produce most. Go with the salesman, what does his sales record tell you about what the customers are interested in, if you don't your competitors will. ------------------------------------------ It starts with the product if it is no good the sales force will not be selling much. Sales are an unfortunate but necessary part of the process although most are just medicine men. Often the most important sales people are lower down in the company food change and are not even in sales but they have a relationship with the customer. For instance I was back office but spoke to the CEO of a company on a regular basis our Sales team (who had never even spoken to me) held a presentation and I was invited. As the Sales guy was blathering on the CEO whispered in my ear "who is this ****** I have known you for 10 years and yet I see a different sales person every time." AT&T decided to sack all its corporate field engineers these were guys who went into companies and serviced their internal telephone systems e.g. switchboards etc. New technology meant that a site visit wasn't necessary so they thought they would save money on their customer service. They could not work out why their sales went down until the penny dropped. The best salesmen were their engineers who had long term relationships with the clients and was trusted so when he told the client you should upgrade to our latest system they trusted him.

I didn't suggest I was a pillock did I? I suggested those who post constant personal insults run the risk of appearing to be a pillock. I don't. Others do. See above for an example.
