Look chief. The people who joined the Labour Party to vote for Corbyn are in no way representative of the increasingly right leaning people of Britain. Either you want to have a chance of not being totally wiped out in the next election or you want to hold on to your potty, minority, far left principles for the bants. Labour only have students, the ethnics and a few old die hard socialist fat blokes from up north voting for them now anyway, so you are only making it worse for yourselves. I'm not going to disagree necessarily on Corbyn but I'd be interested to know if you have anything to back up the statement in bold. Most of the polls show increasing support for policies such as nationalisation, higher progressive taxation, tariffs on (cheap) imports etc - policies traditionally associated with the Left.

It's a fair point. I think the political landscape has changed quite a lot and people are not necessarily adhering to a party line on their opinions with regard specific issues. However when it comes to voting in an election, there is tenancy to choose a party that best represents core beliefs, self interest or maybe the least worst option. The rise of UKIP and the Leave votes suggests more right of centre attitude to me, especially when you consider how unrepresentative the ethnic vote of London and the SNP vote of Scotland is compared to the rest of the country.

I didn't say that. I pointed out that they won the same number of by-elections as the party in government. Which is poor. Even the Lib dems won 3 of them! If you think he can even keep the party together, never mind win a majority of seats in 2020, as leader - you're bonkers. Edited by Stuk (22 Jul 2016 1.07pm) Labour stood candidates in 8 council by-elections. The Labour vote rose in 7 of these, and all the seats defended by Labour were held. The average rise in the Labour vote was just over 10%.

Are you blind? Choosing not to bother doesn't mean they didn't lose it. Newark & Sherwood DC, Balderton South- 21st July 2016 Conservative 483 [82.4%; +25.5%] Selby DC, Bryam & Brotherton- 14th July 2016 Conservative 251 [44.3%; +11.8%] They lost 2 seats, which was more than any other party.
