Evil? Strange perhaps but not really evil. I had it explained to be by an old mate of mine who eventually made it big in the entertainment business and is now the executive director of one of the longest running soaps. He said that the name changes were often because people with quite common names tried to find another that no-body else used, so they wouldn't risk being confused. He too has a stage name but in his private life uses his given one, which is, in my opinion, just as attractive as his stage name. As his face is pretty well known it isn't going to make any difference anyway. Equity rules don’t allow two members with the same name but the point remains that actors, authors, sportsmen, politicians, etc routinely change their names without any of the opprobrium attached to Robinson for doing the same thing.
