And of course those Loyalists. Bound to just sit back and accept rule from Dublin without kicking up a fuss and even if they did, then so what? The Irish Army are more than up to the task of dealing with them. If there is a no-deal Brexit then a united Ireland is absolute pie in the sky. Primarily because the South simply could not afford it.

Ha good old Sinn Fein. They want the Brits out yet want to be under the yolk of a far more sinister organisation. Always struck me as a complete mystery why 'nationalist' organisations like the SNP seem so keen on swapping one version of what they see as servitude for another. The desire for self-determination I get. I loathe foreign institutions having any say over UK law. And I get why people might vote for the SNP if they believe Scotland would be better off if it had the ability to make its own laws and decide its own fate. But how and why that now seems so tied up with this idea that the EU is the answer to all of their problems is utterly beyond me. Yes, the history between all of us home nations and/or Ireland hardly makes for the most pleasant of reading at time but we also share a lot of common bonds and cultural values. The average punter in Dublin or Glasgow has so much more in common with their equivalent in Birmingham or Bristol (I will leave London out because that is in a category of its own now that neither Scotland or Ireland have anything even close to) than anybody in Europe yet seemingly nationalists in both would rather tie their future to Brussels or Berlin. I cannot help but think that a chip on their shoulders lays at the bottom of this all. They simply hate living in England's shadow and would rather swap that darkness for a similar gloomy one but emanating from Brussels. They lack the confidence to actually try and make it on their own.

Hasn't Ireland been on the considerable net take from the EU for decades? What makes Ireland such a catch? Without that EU money how would Ireland be doing? I rather suspect that the Irish nationalists just prefer being ruled by Germans as long as it comes with a cheque. As long as they still get to wave the flag and drink Guinness. That's their choice but that's what it looks like. Edited by Stirlingsays (31 Jul 2019 11.25pm)

So it's good that they are finally paying tiny amounts back in now. I have no idea why you mentioned the US.

It has a very strong sugar daddy.

1133 days since the Brexit vote and still sweet FA has happened. There have, I would imagine, been more enjoyable comas. Whether October, or via GE, or whenever, I think at this point anyone but a sadomasochist should be pleased when we turn the page. Boris looks more steadfast, which may twist the arms that matter. But who knows, my crystal ball packed up a long time ago. What should be evident though is that Theresa May suited no-one. Remainers didn't like her because she was negotiating to leave, and leavers didn't like her because her heart clearly wasn't into leaving, so she was the opposite of a formidable negotiator. At least Boris is taking a position and so the outcome could be different. Time will tell. Edited by dollardays (01 Aug 2019 1.57am)
