One thing is true. The longer people express views like a lot of the posters on here, the longer the English players will continue to take the knee, just to basically give you two fingers. And of course, that works in reverse. Taking wisdom from footballers? Do behave.

From where I watched the build up & the first half, apart from people giving that racist drugs cheat Ferdinand dogs abuse, when the England players took the bender limb, there were a group of black/coloured/people of colour, ie locals, who also booed. We were shocked, laughed & then applauded them. We asked, WHY? Their reply was they disagree with it, it demeans them. Go figure.

Perhaps somebody should ask Gareth Southgate whether he should even bother preparing the England team for this tournament noting this situation. Originally posted by Eaglecoops
This kind of sums it up for me: In 2022. England will play in the World Cup in Qatar. A country where you will receive 100 lashes for adultery. A country where it’s illegal to import alcohol, p***.graphy, pork products or even opposing religious books, for fear of a prison sentence. Are our knee taking, virtue w**king players going to boycott playing in a country like this? Or have they just got a problem with … arguably, the most tolerant, welcoming place in the world … Great Britain. If not, then get up off your f***ing knees, and do what the fans, who pay hundreds of pounds of hard earned money, to support their national team expect of you ... and just play f***ing football. If I wanted a political message from someone who chases a ball, I’d rather ask my f***ing dog. C’mon Dan, tell me, are the English players going to boycott the World Cup?
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

They played canned cheering/clapping, presumably to drown out any booing. The problem was the commentator let it be known there was booing.

By going to Qatar we are condoning their atrocious human rights record, do you condone them? Or do you agree with Eaglecoops? Can’t have it both ways Edited by Spiderman (13 Jun 2021 3.50pm)

I suppose that is the crunch question. Who would take the manager's job in this situation? If you go to Qatar and don't make a political protest gesture then you'll get hounded by both fans complaining about taking the knee today and the LBGT community. If you do make a political statement then I expect the Qatar authorities will make your stay 'uncomfortable'. Remember when Booby Moore got arrested for stealing jewellery before the 1970 World Cup? I think this is correct but personally I would have liked to see the majority of footballing nations taking a stand against Qatar being awarded the WC, much like their stand on anti-racism

From the 'progressive' perspective, how the FA and its internationals could agree to go to the world cup amid such racial injustice is shocking. But then again, it would actually cost them something wouldn't it....like money. Considering their self image how they could have even agree to Qatar in the first place is also shocking considering its human rights record. But hypocrites gonna hypocrite I suppose. Perhaps Southgate will make some 'holier than thou' speech just before he picks his cheque up. Edited by Stirlingsays (13 Jun 2021 4.08pm)
