The very fact that there is a Police Complaints Authority tends to confirm that the over arching commitment is to the law. No-one can legislate for individual frailties or mistakes. The Lodge is there to protect the legitimate rights of the Policemen themselves.

This depends in what context you are referring. Do they prefer giving places to foreign students who pay at least double the amount of fees than Home students?... Absolutely. Very good friend of mine experienced this first hand, his son had straight A* in Alevels but could not gain entrance to any University to study medicine. Those same Universities gave places to foreign students the same year...fact

They aren't double but they are higher.

You can certainly question the merits of asking Universities to think commercially but I would not describe that as bias. The inference in the original comment was bias of a political nature and not a commercially driven admissions policy.

Newsworthy enough to be covered by, among others, The Guardian, Independent, Sky, Mirror, Metro, Sun, Express, Scotsman, Standard, ITV, Yahoo News, Huffington Post, Mail, Talk Radio, Daily Record and Daily Post.
Not the BBC who have however covered Sam Smith’s choice of pronoun.

Different editors reach different decisions. I don't regard the release of a rabble rousing trouble maker news worthy at all.

And yet it’s news worthy enough for you to make several comments. Sorry, corrections.

Attracting attention to yourself is hardly likely to do that.

Nor is constantly referring to his “real” name. As has been mentioned before Jim Callaghan, Harold Wilson and Gordon Brown didn’t use their “real” Christian names. Nor does Wilf Zaha. Doubtless for the same reasons you attribute to Robinson.

Following a thread on the HOL is hardly the same is it?

Using a middle Christian name or family nickname is common practice. Changing your surname by deed poll isn't.

If the story is so unworthy of coverage then why comment on it?

I wasn't. I was commenting on the comments about it.

Evil? Strange perhaps but not really evil.

I had it explained to be by an old mate of mine who eventually made it big in the entertainment business and is now the executive director of one of the longest running soaps.

He said that the name changes were often because people with quite common names tried to find another that no-body else used, so they wouldn't risk being confused. He too has a stage name but in his private life uses his given one, which is, in my opinion, just as attractive as his stage name. As his face is pretty well known it isn't going to make any difference anyway.
