I thought they'd let up with the reports on Bojo's love life, but on TV all day long I've been hearing about the Boris Bounce!

Now that our new Johnson led "government" is threatening the EU with a "no deal" exit and the arch Brexiteers trying to con the Brexit-weary average voter into believing that there is nothing to fear from accepting this, maybe we ought to try to really understand what it actually means. I came across this article written a year ago. It's analysis seems pretty accurate to me and is the reason why Parliament will not allow this to happen:- May was a mess but this is going to get much, much worse.

The article that you linked to is just another from the Project Fear camp that fails to mention that most of the problems that we have had with meat have come from within the UK including BSE, swine fever and all of the many and various problems with chickens. Oddly enough the horsemeat scandal emanated from within the EU

The problem is that "no deal" is used without too many understanding what it entails. Why would they? I worked in the food industry so perhaps have a greater than average grasp of the complexities discussed. I know one of the people consulted in that piece and know him to be someone of the highest integrity. There is no "Project Fear" involved. That's just a slur designed to belittle those who really understand the implications. There is no comparison between the BSE and horsemeat scandals. One was genuinely dangerous to human health. The other was emotionally upsetting. We need to get real. The coming months could potentially see a constitutional crisis, the splitting of the Tory Party and a permanent realignment in British politics. Oh, and the break up of the Union alongside Trump trying to sell us some of his snake oil with a "wonderful new trade deal" on the label.

Oddly enough the horsemeat scandal emanated from within the EU I’m torn. I’d love it if we left and the world didn’t end, so the overtly negative naysayer ‘remoaners’ could be put in their place. But I’d also love it if we left and every sanctimonious brexiteer immediately lost their jobs as a result. Most people are entrenched on both sides, and as a result are completely blinkered, polarised, partisan and completely useless.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |

Your arse must have so many splinters in it from that fence that you could start a bonfire and dance for tonight's entertainment.

Most people are entrenched on both sides, and as a result are completely blinkered, polarised, partisan and completely useless. Every change comes with unknowables. But you're right, the political drift is becoming very pantomime-like indeed with its own flavour of whiny special terms and groupthink for those with entrenched views left and right. From that perspective moving beyond the current endless dithering can only be a good thing, and might inject a level of sanity to each tinpot battalion. If, or likely when we leave, I can't imagine that any possible negative will be 'worse case', because things rarely are. And I think most people get and muddle along with each other regardless of political view anyway. In fact, most relationships between people aren't of a particularly political nature, which is exactly how it should be. I think slowing down societal change will cool the the environment somewhat. But make no mistake, assimilation isn't something that only applies if you're non white, or an immigrant or descendant of one. It applies to all politics, and hues and people. Those on the drift, left and right, who trade in actually getting on with others for whatever shade of simplistic pipe dream ideology is passing through.
