Lets say we sign Holding. Outgoings Zaha Incomings Franca Are we weaker or stronger? Would say Henderson a clear upgrade on Butland. Lerma at this point a massive upgrade on McArthur and Milo. Franca we have no idea but given his lack of experience you'd say short term has to be a clear downgrade on Zaha who was a huge source of creativity and goals. We are maybe 2 signings from it being a good window I think and I can't believe we're not, at an absolute minimum trying to use our loans.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Rumours that he is part of a deal taking Guehi to Arsenal. So, I am not ok with Holding, they can keep him.
PS. I say wishful thinking on Arsenal's part because they are desperate to offload Holding in this window (along with several other players) and as we know, Parish and Co like to buy in the basement market so I expect any deal won't be for much. Edited by doombear (01 Sep 2023 12.18pm)

I agree, why spend so much on Henderson when our replacement for Zaha is Schlupp. No Zaha replacement and still no resolution to RB or LB cover, still only 2 recognised strikers. IMO the full back positions are crucial to us in terms of progressing to the next level. This ^^^

Until recently, I would have described our full backs as solid. Not just the ones playing this weekend, but since we got promoted. They have been solid defenders who are weak going forwards…besides PVA. That served us well. But recently, I look at Ward and Mitchell and I see the weak links in the team. Error prone and offer nothing going forwards. If they can’t attack, the least they can do is defend…but I don’t see that happening at the moment. It’s early in the season to write someone off, but I’m in the same boat as a lot of others on the site…both full backs need to be upgraded.

Just checked the BBC Transfer News thread. Along with the ins and outs they are asking supporters from each PL club what their hopes are for today. So far they haven't bothered asking us.
One more point |

With the exception of Citeh (whose only gripe was selling Palmer to Chelsea) all the other clubs' fans are moaning about where they are short - we are by no means the only ones.

If you go on to the website…click Football…navigate to the Crystal Palace page…the comments are there. Not particularly an overwhelming response from out supporters…but an interesting read

Brighton confirm the signing on Ansu Fati. The only way we'll get a Fati to play for us would be if we try and get Neil Shipperley, Kevin Miller or Neil Ruddock out of retirement.

Edited by dreamwaverider (01 Sep 2023 12.32pm) When you play with inverted wingers, ie those who cut inside, then having full backs who can cross right footed from the right and left footed from the left gives us an entirely different dimension and it is something I think we have missed since PVA left. Can’t remember who was the last right back who was decent at crossing.

It's frightening just how far ahead of us they are.. And they've done it without spending a fortune.. Thing is they have people who run their club who have a bit of ambition. We don't..
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
