The late transfer business is an issue as players such as Ayew and Meyer have spoken about not having a proper preseason and so not being ready. Also, it does seem we have missed out on targets due to leaving it too late (if the media is to be believed). Parish has also spoken before about enjoying the rush of deadline day, but I'm not convinced it's really worked in our favour. Eze signed early, had a proper preseason, was ready to go. Incompetence or not, the later the new manager comes in the less time he has to prepare. That's just a fact. How much the delay is down to the club and a lack of succession planning and how much is just the nature of the game it is hard to tell without being a fly on the wall. As it stands we're all clueless and who's to say whether someone's opinion is valid or not. For all we know Parish and Dougie are playing rock, paper, scissors to make their decision. Personally I think they were swayed by the attraction of Nuno, Mendes screwed us and now the club have had to step back and look at the drawing board again. Frustrating, but certainly better than panicking and offering the job to any old hack.

Hi Swans fan here.. Not sure what's going on with Cooper but its looking likely he won't be with us next season so i guess he still could be in the frame as your new Manager possibly. A few thoughts on Cooper - Its very evident he has a lot of contacts in the game and is a trusted coach especially for young players with the success he's had with past England youth squads. Cooper builds his success on having a really solid and organised defence and can play a 3,4 or 5 backline but also relies on 2 midfielders sitting deep so we constantly invite pressure. We don't play with much width and often resort to the long aimless ball as opposed to passing through the lines like we used too. Not having a recognised striker for 2 years and getting to the playoffs could be seen as a great achievement but there was a massive reliance on Ayew to deliver something out of nothing to win games. If Cooper signs then i can't see his coaching staff being either good enough or one maybe not wanting to move at all so Cooper would need some experience around him to succeed. Would Cooper keep you up !? i doubt it very much, would he rebuild your side on a limited budget probably not, would you enjoy the football served up again probably not. If you had issue with Roy's subs strategy then Cooper will trump him with some very bizarre decisions. It could be argued with a better squad and better players he could deliver but this would be a big gamble for you. You probably need a couple of seasons of transition with your ageing and out of contract players so you need a period of stability. A lot of our fans would happily take midtable and play some decent football than watch us get outplayed at home by Preston and Coventry playing the whole game in our half under Cooper's reign. Whatever happens good luck to the Eagles next season. Thanks for coming on here and giving us a heads up on what we can expect if Cooper gets the job. I have to say that I was one of those who was prepared to give him a chance but having read what you have to say it’s seriously worrying that he is even being considered, assuming he is. I thought Hodgson was bad but at least he kept us up.

There isn't a club or manager in the world who wouldn't want their squad and staff 'complete' for day one of pre-season, but yet so few can ever achieve it. Personally, I'd say that fact must tell us something about how it works and that the issue is not unique to Palace, though the main point is that not having the squad/manager in place for pre-season cannot be cited as evidence of 'failure' unless someone can show that Parish or Freedman ignored their jobs and went on holiday/the piss instead. Which I doubt.

Repeating myself here, but why do so many of you feel doing business late on in a transfer window (mostly for players, but now for a new manager) to be some kind of incompetence on the part of the club? One reason is that decent players could well be snapped up by other clubs who are more decisive and another is that if we leave it too late the club won't sell as they don't have enough time to find a replacement. We have been caught out with the latter already before now

There have been complaints in the past that Parish has pushed off on holiday during the transfer windows (including January) and his excuse is that he has a phone so is always in touch

What about Sol Campbell? He was on Talksport the other day and when asked which Prem manager's style his methods mirror he said Pep Guardiola. He thinks he just needs a chance to prove himself at the top level

We have been caught out with the latter already before now I can only repeat the point. You are presuming that Palace are being indecisive, but none of us know that that at all. Palace might have made bids for players on day one of the window, but the selling club held off until the last day to try and get an auction going. Or, Palace might have decided to wait until the last day to approach clubs who hadn't got bids they were happy with, but who need to sell - I can understand Parish hoping to get the selling club when they are desperate, driving down the price of a player so that our money can be made to go further, or giving us a shot at one we couldn't normally get otherwise. Or, maybe Palace have found that they have to wait for players to have bigger, better moves not materialise before we become a viable option. Until such time as they publish a history of bids, rejections, counter bids, alternative offers, who said what to who and when etc, any criticism of Palace for doing things late is based on nothing more than a presumption. Quite why so many are prepared to criticise the running of something when not in a position of sufficient knowledge is a mystery to me. Edited by TheBigToePunt (15 Jun 2021 5.47pm)

More likely the player held off until he found out who the manager was going to be which in my opinion is what most sensible would do Originally posted by TheBigToePunt

You don't seem to be aware that this is a discussion forum and we can only discuss based on what we see. Parish is currently embarking on a PR exercise telling the media that many people would like to manage the club but he has to ensure that the right man gets the job as if every other club go out to pick the wrong manager
