191 page thread, the concise version: Benteke's s***, he can't (insert failing here) Nah, not his fault, Hodgson doesn't play to his strengths We should never have sold Murray

please, please RH, whatever teams u put out against Our NeXT opponents, leave Benteke far away from starting 11. Enough is enough of a totally goalshy "striker".

Agree with those that say it's not all his fault. Can't remember one decent cross this morning. Preseason, as soon as Luka put a decent cross in, CB smashes it home. I'd be wanting out if I were him. He's better than he's being allowed to show right now. Ironically, we'd be much better off with Gayley right now. (Where's my helmet?)

It continues to amaze me that people STILL say here that Benteke hasn’t had enough time / lack of support / no service / not being used correctly / it’s only a matter of time before he starts knocking them in, etc. He’s had scores of games with us now and he never scores. It can’t be everyone else’s fault all the time. He’s had multiple seasons with us, on ££££££££££££££££££ per week, and looks like he couldn’t give a toss most of the time or fluffs any chance he gets. That said, nor did anyone else yesterday. We’re not a charity for underperforming/ageing players lacking confidence (another oft-given excuse). We’re a club with proud supporters who are sick and tired of abject underwhelming performances. The team, including Benteke, need a rocket.

Cannot waste any more time on him unless we want to be relegated. Not going to bother going to manure as not sure Roy will drop him. How he started ahead of Ayew is beyond comprehension. I would rather play with 10 men than include Benteke.

I wonder whether Benteke's wage bill is a constraint on our ability to sign a striker in the the last window.

If we are going to continue lump balls forward then Wickham is a better option than Benteke as he has more skill. Playing both as we did yesterday later on is crazy. A much better way to try to score goals is to change our tactics using pacy forwards (like Gayle) and utilise the passing skills of Meyer (and Camarasa?) De Booer tried this but wasn't given a chance. I wonder if Hodgson will be given the time he wasn't if we find ourselves struggling like headless chickens after 4 matches? We all know the answer, he is untouchable. Gloomy times lie ahead.

It says it all when our £30m striker is more useful at defending set pieces than he is at attacking them.

lovely lad though, acknowledging that Palace have been very good to him, and not wanting to 'leave like a thief'.

His hold up play is poor, bullied far too often against all types of defenders – it’s very rare he comes out with the ball in a battle. When he does receive the ball to feet, he looks to give it away as quickly as possible which suggests a confidence issue. He’s not good enough for our style of play, Wilf drives into the box and Benteke hasn’t got the know how to delay his run or wait for a cut back. I do believe he’d score more goals if we set up to his strengths as Allardyce has stated on TalkSport i.e cross the ball more often, beat the first man in set pieces (Luka was awful yesterday) but it’s not good enough that a 32 million player on 100k + a week can only score with his head, what are his other strengths?

All the games that we scored 3 or more goals in the league last season, 6 games, only once we played a "target man", its not rocket science, we play much better with a mobile striker, Bats was ideal, but Benteke is clueless in this role, we dont and never will play to Benteke's strength, because or "best" forward players, Wilf and Andros don't like playing there, Ayew although not great is our best option by far.

Even the law of averages must say he should score more than 1 goal a season playing as a striker. Hopefully we are still in the Prem next summer when is wages are freed up, to get someone in who does know where the back of the net is.
