You are right. Whilst I am moaning about the lack of new players it is an achievement that we have managed to hold onto our best ones. We have sent a message to the big boys if you really want them you will have to pay top dollar. That also sends a message to our players as well. It is nice to be linked to a top 6 club but how badly do they want you if they are not prepared to pay top dollar. or do they want you as a bench warmer. Getting Olise to sign a new contract told the other players that unlike Chelscum our club saw him as a key player. He may go next season but if he does the buying club will have to make it clear they see him as a major signing. TBH I think it makes us a more attractive proposition for younger players too. If we model ourselves as a place where younger players can see themselves playing for an established PL side consistently, and not flung through a revolving door with uncertainty, we may be seen as a more attractive career opportunity and club to be at. Henderson alluded to this also. We probably face only being a window or two away from danger, a la the Saints or Foxes, but nonetheless to get through this one unscathed will inspire some confidence. Be nice to add to numbers too (he says wishfully)!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Reports that David Nugent and Tim Cahill have been seen in the car park. Just make sure Shipperley's not there in his van also...

Ah yes Rob Holding, the versatile winger / striker we've been crying out for.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Sky are reporting that we're in talks to sign Rob Holding. I'm inclined to say it so will - I don't think Holding is the worst signing in the world. I'll hardly rush out to get a top with his name on the back but he'd represent some sanity in our spending for me. Arsenal didn't buy him because he's useless, PL experience and we need cover there. Considering our limited budget and availability of deals to be done, could be seen as a smart move. No qualms with others disagreeing just my thoughts. Edited by Nicholas91 (01 Sep 2023 10.28am)

I'd agree. At worst it would put Tomkins down to 5th place centre back and as both Tomkins and Richards seem to pick up a couple of knocks each season, it's at least cover. Originally posted by Nicholas91

I'm ok with Holding if he's free, doesn't have a wage and never has to play.
