Listening to Parish's interview with Izzard on Palace Player, he does make it clear that he likes the local/club connection in his appointments, which begs the question, who will replace Roy if he sticks to this? It would basically limit us to people who have lived in the area or who have played for the club - what's Roger De Courcey up to these days? He could have Nookie Bear as his number two.

A Freedman/Derry "Dream ticket".
Both former players,both former managers.

When Palace are drubbed 4-0 by Brighton on 22/2/2021 these two will step in - mark it in your diary

In fairness, Derry and Freedman have a combined CV that would be bettered by most of the managers in League 1.

I for one don't really get the 'they know the club' type of hire. I can see how it can be a nice nostalgic thing for the first week, but I'd rather have someone in charge who knows how to set up against the top 6 over someone who knows how to get to the training ground without a satnav.

The person who is in charge in May has to make the decisions over half the squad. That's massive. It has to be someone with the stature to allow us to be confident they can stick around for a couple of years. That doesn't allow us to gamble on a FdB type. It makes people like Howe/Dyche/Benitez who are proven in the league an attractive option. Lampard is about as risky as I think we'd want to go.

If Eddie Howe is supposed to be so good, why wasnt he offered the Chelsea job or even in the running? He has been out of a job apart from a bit punditary for 6 months, no great demand for his services.

I am not advocating his appointment but he did say he wanted a rest from football until Christmas

The conversation to a prospective manager might go down the path of :

"We need to replace most of our "Dad's Army" and bring in replacements"
"OK,how much is the transfer budget?"
"Not a great deal, limited amount"
"Thank you very much, have a good day" - Phone goes down!!

Sounds ideal to me. Will sort out the short-term money grabbing managers from those that want to be a part of the next chapter in our evolution as a football club!

I guess the one upside is that a lot of the really big earners are on that list and, for our current squad, that doesn't mean the best players. That automatically means money is available.

of this list: [Link]

You could lose Sakho, PvA, Benteke, Wickham and generate probably £300k/week. Travesty that we're not getting transfer fees there, but they all feel easily replaceable at far lower values.

Schlupp and Mitchell are the only ones on that list I'm concerned about, and there are reports that Mitchell's contract isn't actually up anyway.

The conversation could easily be that the squad's old and arguably past it, but they're all gone if you want, so start again.

_____________Butland

Ferguson Tomkins SPACE Mitchell

_______Riedewald SPACE

Zaha _________Ayew_______ Eze

_____________Mateta

That's a decent quality base to start from with the amount of budget space there will be.

I am no great lover of Eddie Howe, still less of Frank Lampard and definitely not of a Freedman/Derry combo
BUT
does anyone still think that anyone couldn't do better than Roy Hodgson ? He is bereft of ideas and we are drifting dangerously.

I'd like to get Thomas Franck but would take Eddie Howe at a pinch to reverse our slide.

I don't understand this obsession with Thomas Frank. Brentford are 4th in the Championship. So, if we're seriously considering Championship managers as a replacement for Roy, what about the guy at Swansea? Or even Reading?

Thomas Frank would be a good appointment but only if was accompanied by his Scouting and Analytical teams
