Where's Willo when you need him. He could translate the banter into something rather more sophisticated and less grating to Becky's ears. With regard to the topic, it's becoming apparent that any plan for the next man was scribbled on the back of a fag packet and promptly lost. We're nearly halfway through June, with no sign of progress. What with no manager and all those players out of contract, a SNAFU is on the cards and a cataclysmic start to next season likely.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

If we wait to long, it could be worth looking up the relegation odds!

I think it's pretty fair to say, by this point, that all pre-summer plans, however well (or poorly) they were made, have well and truly fallen through and it's panic stations. It would explain not only why the board have not made the absolutely crucial move of appointing a new manager, but that they've pulled a scared turtle and are hiding away inside their shell. Normally we just have to put up with the fact that any potential transfer rumours are dragged out 'til deadline day where it's leaked we were "held to ransom by the agent" and will have to make do with Jaroslav Jach (or this nonsense American lad this year) but this year we can't even get that ball rolling because we're tearing the office apart, trying to find that post it note with Neil Warnocks number on it.

Is it likely that we are still stuck on the same old short list? A quick and ill informed Wikipedia scan of over/well performing teams and their managers... Stuttgart - Pellegrino Matterazo - got Stuttgart promoted and then finished 9th. Spent time as No 2 to Nagelsman. Born in America so speaks fluent American. Union Berlin - Urs Fisher - done an amazing job to get Union up then survive and this year 7th. Seems like the Sean Dyke of the Bundesliga. Sassuolo – Roberto De Zerbi – already left for wellness experts Shakra Donesk Lens – Frank Haise – got them promoted and into 7th – Wikipedia scant on detail. Real Sociedad – Imanol Alguacil – a Sociedad man through and through, unlikely. Braga – Carlos Carvalhal – didn’t do so well with Wednesday but maybe they are impossible to manage. Pacos De Ferriera – manager already left to spelling mistakes Vitória de Guimarăes And a token Australian to follow the Celtic model, Tony Popovic – twiddling his thumbs at Australian pub team the ironically named Melbourne Victory. Did amazing things at Western Sydney Wanderers , won the league in their first year of existence then won the Asian Cup in their second. Only one other Australian team has even made a final (and lost 5-0) and given the size and resources of the Chinese and Japanese teams is akin to Palace winning the Champions league. Didn’t go so well in two goes in Europe but needs time to get going.

How would that look exactly? "Hi, Steve Parish here, letting you know that today I've spoken to agent X and agent Y to give them the overview of the CPFC project particulars in relation to manager A and manager B. I have a room at the Soho Hotel booked for 10am tomorrow for initial meetings before we decide if we want to move to formal interview process. I'll update you all once those private conversations have taken place on key takeouts and next steps." It wouldn't help the process, nor those involved in it, one bit to be providing periodical updates to the fans and/or media to reassure us all that things are happening.

Hi Swans fan here.. Not sure what's going on with Cooper but its looking likely he won't be with us next season so i guess he still could be in the frame as your new Manager possibly. A few thoughts on Cooper - Its very evident he has a lot of contacts in the game and is a trusted coach especially for young players with the success he's had with past England youth squads. Cooper builds his success on having a really solid and organised defence and can play a 3,4 or 5 backline but also relies on 2 midfielders sitting deep so we constantly invite pressure. We don't play with much width and often resort to the long aimless ball as opposed to passing through the lines like we used too. Not having a recognised striker for 2 years and getting to the playoffs could be seen as a great achievement but there was a massive reliance on Ayew to deliver something out of nothing to win games. If Cooper signs then i can't see his coaching staff being either good enough or one maybe not wanting to move at all so Cooper would need some experience around him to succeed. Would Cooper keep you up !? i doubt it very much, would he rebuild your side on a limited budget probably not, would you enjoy the football served up again probably not. If you had issue with Roy's subs strategy then Cooper will trump him with some very bizarre decisions. It could be argued with a better squad and better players he could deliver but this would be a big gamble for you. You probably need a couple of seasons of transition with your ageing and out of contract players so you need a period of stability. A lot of our fans would happily take midtable and play some decent football than watch us get outplayed at home by Preston and Coventry playing the whole game in our half under Cooper's reign. Whatever happens good luck to the Eagles next season.

Thanks to Soton Jack for taking the time. Dull football, long ball, defence first, rely on an individual.... Our interest in Mr C all makes sense now! On a serious note - the methods you describe are the ones that work when you've not got enough money, especially in the top flight. That has been our experience, and we often use your club as an example of the opposite approach with a negative outcome. You've done the new ground, had a string of sexy managers playing free-flowing football, been the darlings of the media, had a day in the sun but it all fell through. We, on the other hand, with our dilapidated stadium, godforsaken style of play and team that nobody would miss if we went down have stuck to the side of the good ship 'top-flight' like a barnacle. Personally I think there is a lesson in there, just not a very heart-warming one.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have already done the deed and because of settlements or elongated contracts cannot name the manager until July. Most players contracts end in July so I'm being patient, for now.

I think we should show we are a progressive club and go for Shelley Kerr former Arsenal and Scotland ladies manager.
