Not if he wants Champions League. And Parish would accept 40M and Jenkinson instead of 80M

I’d be very surprised if it worked like that. Otherwise I think we’d see many more player swaps than we do. In that scenario I’d expect any make weight players to be given a ‘fair value’ and we’d pay a sell on fee based on that. In practice I think most player swaps are done as separate transfers. Clubs can't just swop players if the player doesn't want to go, i can't see many top class players coming to Palace just because there own club wants Zaha on the cheap.

The papers are always full of swap deals but they rarely come off. How would you feel being the makeweight in a big deal. Fair enough if you are a youngster not yet established but if you are a first team player in your own right it's a little insulting to be the junior player in a swap. It's hard enough to transfer 1 player with their agent demands, swap deals just make it even harder.

There doesn’t appear to be a suitor or club that can afford the fee. Man City or Liverpool were the only likely candidates, but they have not shown any interest to date, so we are as we are. It’s going to be a long Summer...

I think people are taking the Champions League thing a bit too literally. I interpreted it as I want to play for a team that's challenging and whilst Arsenal missed out this season, they are clearly a team that's aim is Champions League every season and he would be moving to a team that could help him reach his aspirations. However, I can only see this move happening if they are offering £40m and a couple of players like Reiss and Chambers. I don't think that's such a bad deal as getting two players in negates some of that sell on fee that we would've had to pay to Man U had we gone straight fee.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Zaha wants out' by Midlands Eagle I can't stress enough that the fee we get (if he went) ONLY matters insofar as what we do with it. If we got nothing but used Wilf's wages to recruit 2 outstanding prospects on 30k a week, I'm fine with that. But if we get 100m and spend it on four Bentekes, it is an abysmal failure & disaster. Kenny Sansom, Ian Wright, Mark Bright, Andy Johnson, Wilf, Clyne, Moses, AWB, Geoff Thomas, Andy Gray. these are just some of the best players to play for us in my lifetime. And they were free or peanuts. But they had hunger and determination to become what they needed to become. We should be obsessing first and foremost on our recruitment & player development. That's how a club like ours can survive. The fee (or otherwise) for Wilf will be what it is.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

Sadly and likely that the English clubs who want him will leave it as late as possible. I do tend to agree with you on this, my concern is that IF & that's a huge if, Wilf truly wants to leave & what you say does happen, will we be in danger of having a VERY unhappy player who is our top earner & not then wanting to play for the club?
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
