There’s footage of Guehi being asked by presumably a Palace fan whether he’s going. If Riad settles and adapts to the Premier League it will be good to have a left footed central defender to add to the balance of the team. In an earlier message I expressed a view that we may not need another centre half if Guehi departed as we had plenty of cover.

If Guehi leaves, which seems very likely, he will need to be replaced. Once you get past the current first choice three the quality drops a fair bit: Riad, looks promising but unknown quantity at this level; Lerma, can definitely do job there; Holding, not seen enough of him to know; Clyne, surprisingly effective but would you really want him as a regular starter; and Ward, can do a job in an emergency but, again I wouldn’t be comfortable seeing him start regularly. If Guehi leaves Lacroix seems the most likely replacement.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I would prefer the experience of mark at the back and his experience than a replacement who is thrown in with no time to understand to premiership.

Marc He is certainly quality and it seems some on here don’t realise to what extent. Goes about his business efficiently and with little fanfare. Generally almost perfect.

However, I don't fully agree with your assessment of Guehi apart from his weakness in the air (as was evident today with Nantes goal. In fact, I think Glasner may have had the right idea in the Villa game - Guehi could make a very accomplished DM. Edited by doombear (11 Aug 2024 10.27pm)

doombear I never understood how Fenwick got even one cap. I distinctly remember him at half back running around like a headless chicken chasing the player with the ball as if it was a primary schoolyard match. Can't remember who we were playing against. YT We used to call him 'cornflake-packet-head'. Your perceptions of this player were contradictory to a certain extent.
