I watched France last night. I can see why they didn't select Olise. He would have spent the whole event bench warming. They seem to play with strength and speed. Im not sure Olise's sublime skills are what France is all about. I can't see them putting him on the pitch ahead of Dembele.

Sadly for England, the same bench warming is probably the case for Eze and Wharton.
I dont think anyone realises the impact Wharton would have on our central play. It would transform the system.
And as for Eze, well if we want to stand a chance of winning, put him on the pitch. He will do the rest.

I've been singing this from the rooftops, all my non Palace supporting mates think I'm mental. But I genuinely think he is the missing cog.

I see the defensive conundrum and utilising players in their best positions easily resolved by setting up like this:

Pickford
Walker. Stones. Guehi.
Trent. Gordon.
Wharton. Rice.
Bellingham.
Palmer.
Kane.

This keeps Trippier and Foden out the side which is for the best, provides width and hopefully there would be some decent link up play between Palmer, Bellingham and Kane. Thoughts?

Sorry, this hasn’t come out as I intended. TAA and Gordon play as wingbacks with a back 3 if that’s not clear.

Me too on this. Wharton would completely change things for the better. His speed of vision and the way does the simple things is missing from the England team from the other night.

Roy Keane pointed out that TAA made one or two decent passes. The rest of the game he gave the ball away or looked lost.

Put Wharton in FFS

If he stays for another season, it surely makes it more likely that others do too.

The fact that we are (apparently) in the process of offering him a new deal would indicate that CPFC Senior Management still believe that there is a chance to keep him / its not a foregone conclusion that he is definitely leaving & he is not packing his bags just yet -

That is surely good news for a touch of cautious optimism, at least for the time being.

I would take a contrary view to the Mail story that we are offering Olise a bumper new contract with a release clause for 2025.
It’s less than a year since he signed his last bumper new deal , this time with a reputed release clause for 2024 which top clubs are apparently seeking to activate this summer.
Yet another new contract only postpones the saga until next year and we start all over again with the speculation.

The counter argument I suppose is that we get Olises’s services for another year with a potential higher release clause

But for me it’s yet another demonstration of how cynical the game has become with a real absence of loyalty or acting in good faith.
Olise signed a lucrative long term contact at the beginning of last season and was injured for the majority of the season.
The club have been very supportive of him.
He’s obviously an exceptional player and made an outstanding contribution in the games where he was available.
No doubt some will see this as a naive view, but we gave him a long term contract when it was unclear as to how he would recover from his injury.
Wouldn’t it be nice if he just concentrated on playing a full season for the club under his current long term contract ?

I doubt this will persuade him to stay, but you never know

Olise is a bright guy.
Allegedly he is wanted by Bayern Munich. If true, Bayern are one of the biggest clubs in the world. If he goes there it would be a significant jump up from us. Next stop Real Madrid if he is good enough.

If the offer of a new deal is true then I'm glad Palace aren't just rolling over. We're in a much stronger position than last season when we had a stop-gap manager in place and the squad looked thin. We now have four current England internationals, we added Wharton and Munoz and we've just signed a Barcelona protégé, plus we're rumoured to have another star in Kamada due to be revealed within a couple of weeks. Perhaps most importantly we seemingly have a manager and coaching setup which could potentially see us challenge for a European spot.

Unless he has a serious injury then the top clubs will still be ready to buy him next summer, but the ones rumoured to be interested might be a more stable environment to walk into.

That would make more sense than going to Chelsea. Have any of the clickbait articles mentioned why he'd want to go there after turning them down last year?
In his position his best career move is probably to stay with us to see how things work out, he seems to be enjoying our new way of playing and is already on good money.
From his perspective if things don't work out he'll have no shortage of suitors during every window.
