Strange how things in life can change so quickly…After the defeat to Brighton, we were all fuming with the club, nobody really reported any interesting information about the players or club, and life was depressing…Move forward a few months, and there is now huge interest in our players, club and potential signings. I would not be surprised to see all 4 of our players named in the England squad. Though putting them in the limelight only fuels speculation that other clubs will be on the prowl

I would imagine that the only reason Trafford hasn't been released yet is just in case the keeper (Pickford / Henderson) picks up an injury in the final friendly Originally posted by mileend
Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah also reported on the bbc as being omitted from the squad So Southgate only has four more to let go including a keeper

Love Eze, but for me, him a Foden play in the same position, and Foden is presently a better all round player. Both are difficult to fit in a team. They both need to be allowed to roam, and to some extent are 'luxury' players (at international level at least). Pep is able to surround Foden with players to allow him to play his game. We've got a team built around Eze. England have an abundance of (attacking) midfielders that they are trying to cram into one team. Even Rice has been playing further forward this season. The closest to a defensive midfielder with defensive pedigree is Stones! Rice next. Wharton may be able to fit in as a DM, but unsure of his defensive ability at this level. could be too much of a risk to play as a DM. 4 at the back, and Kane upfront leaves space for 5 midfielders. 2 Of which are 'defensive' to allow the 3 AM's + Kane to work. DMs(2 spots): AMs(3 spots): I have no idea how that translates into a structure that works.

Subject to any release clause clearly. Unless any of them throw their toys out and demand a transfer, I think that’s unlikely in the current good Palace environment and with their international careers on the up.

Edited by dreamwaverider (06 Jun 2024 11.30am) You may be right, but if Kane is fit there's no way he doesn't start. England have an enviable selection of forward-thinking players. It's the defence that's the issue, along with a goalkeeper who is prone to losing focus. We should storm out of our group, but against the top teams we might struggle again.

Man, that's a depressing bunch Of defenders! I guess if Trent Alexander-Arnold is going (as a midfielder nominally) then he is the cover for right back and two can be left behind out of Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Lewis Dunk (Brighton), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa) Konsa and Dunk to miss out? I'd obviously want to swap Wharton and Gallagher as the starter but you are probably right in predicting Gareth's thoughts on this matter. Hopefully the Iceland game will reverse the thinking. The one person I had totally forgotten was in the training squad is Anthony Gordon. He is in the Bowen category as a quick attacking wide player. But I haven't heard any reports of him, or Bowen, being a serious option.

Edited by mileend (06 Jun 2024 1.02pm) SSN are reporting that Dunk picked up an injury & is doubtful for tomorrow nights game & according to GS, anyone not involved for that game is at serious risk of not being picked, whether that also applies to Maguire & Shaw is anyone's guess. As an aside they also said that Wharton was one of the players likely to miss out.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

ah yes, I forgot against Gordon too! Hes probably the most natural winger we have that could play on the left. He could actually add balance to the side with him on the Left and Saka on the right. You'd have to sacrifice either Bellingham or Foden to accomodate him. but that may be ok, balance of the team should take precedence over shoehorning talent into it.

Tomorrow's line-up will probably include mainly 1st team players and I wouldn't be surprised to see the following: Ramsdale or Henderson Walker, Rice Gordon Kane If as is being rumoured, Maguire isn't fit and Grealish will be left out that leaves just one more to be cut which could be Dunk if his injury isn't just a little knock or one of Toney, Watkins, Bowen and Eze. If Gordon plays and produces tomorrow he'll get the nod to be in the 26. Edited by doombear (06 Jun 2024 4.00pm)
