Hodgson's interview after the game absolutely staggered me. 'Still in the game at 3-0' ??? 'Sorry he brought on the youngsters as subs' ????? Heaven help us ! Mr Parish should show some backbone and ask him to politely leave. The squad are down and dispirited. Poor tactics, inability to use subs that might have helped, and total inability to get the best out of the players are just some of the manager's failures.

We appear to have no idea of how to play 5 at the back. If you watch Martinelli’s goals the full back is on the halfway line watching him sprint past and one centre half gets sucked into the middle to double up on the ball leaving him in acres of space. This is Roy trying to sort Richards into his preferred position but it just doesn’t work as even with 3 centre halfs we were poor defensively in both open play and at set pieces. We are an absolute mess defensively and yet that is supposed to be our strength. It really doesn’t bode well and as of this point in time , with the squad we have and the lack of confidence I would say we are joint favourites for the third relegation spot. The players have given us reasons to believe that perhaps in the main they are totally disillusioned and dispirited and cannot wait to move to pastures new. Edited by Willo (20 Jan 2024 3.13pm)

I have always stuck up for Parish and after Roy did well at the back end of last season I understood the reason for giving him another season. What a shame Roy didn't finish on a high at the end of last season instead of ending up having any legacy destroyed. Now though I think the board have to act. We have been unlucky with injuries I agree but Roy is just too stubborn with his team selection and tactics (if there are any tactics). I still dont believe John Textor is the answer but i am now starting to wonder if Parish should actively look to sell his shares and allow someone else to try and move us on. We will probably just escape relegation this season but only just. All our good players will be actively seeking to get out now (although they also have to take some responsibility) and its become such a joyless experience to watch our team play. Change is actually vital now but I worry that no decent manager will be willing to risk joining us or that we can even offer them acceptable terms (decent pay, decent transfer budget). I have been a bit cross to see so many people turning on the team, management & board but i now sadly think they may be right and I may be wrong.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that. |

Watching the after match analysis. Rio and known discussing. Basically saying what we have all been saying. Rio also said that other teams would love to have some of the players we have and the manager is not getting a tune out of them. Absolutely agree with this

Absolutely agree with this I have seen a vibrant and exciting Southampton team under Russell Martin, and I have witnessed a high-energy entertaining team in Peterborough under Darren Ferguson. I have asked myself the question "Would these teams be as easy on the eye to watch if Mr Hodgson was in charge of them?" Edited by Willo (20 Jan 2024 3.20pm)

One of the coaches should have prepared the squad for Troussard's too-clever blocking of Andersen on both of the winning corners. (Gabriel outplayed Richards on them, but Andersen could have reached the first and Andersen or Henderson the second.) Roy managed the game poorly: But without Olise, Ayew, and, yes, Doucoure, would Alex Ferguson have managed even a draw at Emirates today?

Probably three years ago I was in conversation with an erstwhile player from another club and in his esteemed opinion he believed that Henderson had a weakness when the ball is in the air and he has players around him adding that he doesn't dominate enough.

Think he said something like - should have protected the result - but bought the youngsters on and it’s hard for them and the result then got away from us - words to that affect anyway...!! But he didn’t bring on the youngsters - he bought on James Tomkins - our oldest player at 3-0 - who then proceeded to get rinsed for the last 2 goals..!! If anything Ahamada produced the best, most exciting bit of play/run from us for the whole game..!! So how is it the youngsters fault - just don’t get it..!! Clearly Roy’s delusions and arrogance knows no bounds - and it’s costing us big time..!! He’s press conferences / after game interviews are bordering on the ridiculous now and becoming even more nonsensical..!! It’s abundantly clear - that despite all the potential to hand, the terrible results and performances - he still has no intention of giving the youth and potential a chance - even when he does he blames them..!! Even though we were already 3-0 down - with his tried and tested experienced players on the pitch - he then brings on his oldest and most experienced player for our Captain and current England centre half - who gives away 2 goals - but it’s all the youngsters fault..!! What planet is he on - what game is he watching..!! Just beggars belief..!! Surely he’s got be gone now..!!

You are correct, and the fullback was Ahamada!!!!! and Roy hates 5 at the back, Roy and Ray should be relived of their positions, if the manager they want is available, put him in now, if not give Paddy the caretaker role, at least he will put some of the younger players in, Imray, Ozoh, Ahamada and Franca should all be starting.
