This has taken 9 years for the government in South Korea to realise that knee jerk decisions don’t work. Now they have changed the law. There are bad eggs everywhere but many more good ones.

I think it's refreshing to see the Catholic Church waking up to the fact that it's no longer the dark ages and that their past approaches are no longer appropriate. Better this than torturing or burning heritics at the stake or forcing unmarried mothers into laundries, to give just 2 examples. Or would you prefer the attitudes of the dark ages?

Are those the two options? Burning people at the stake or embracing and integrating homosexuality? Or are these both examples of things which have nothing to do with the religion or God and only the whims of men in their time? Whilst it's modernising, perhaps Bishops should go out and antagonise the public for TikTok views, DJ their way through mass, start carrying knives and appear on 'The Masked Singer'? The hymns might be a bit of a giveaway on that last one. Whilst no fan of Islam I do have to admire it for it's stringent adherence to it's doctrines. Often called 'the last true religion' and you can see why. I can be spared the 'times are changing' spiel, I am not advocating for or against anything really, just noting the nonsense of it all. It's either a religion or not. If the Catholic Church wants to change absolutely and candidly into a corporation then so be it, but don't call it a religion or religious institution.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I have had more contact with the Catholic Church than ever I thought possible, due to personal circumstances. I was very prejudiced against them in the past but now have a more nuanced view. There is still a lot which makes no sense at all but there is also a lot of good there. That there is a movement for change and to be prepared to reevaluate long held attitudes seems healthy. A stringent adherence to doctrines seems to me to want to deny the possibility they might be wrong. What seems more productive is a stringent adherence to principles, of which love, tolerance and forgiveness seem the most basic in Christianity.

Islam is harder to reform as its book states that these are the very words of god dictated to man. As for Christianity, it's been watered down to basically please people who don't believe in it.....which at this point seems to be most of its clergy....you suspect most there to earn a living being nice to people and partaking in fable telling. Nietzsche saw how it would go in the west over a hundred and fifty years ago. But we largely didn't import the west here did we.

If they are going to adapt to the modern world why bother believing. My nice neighbour completely believes in the bible and Adam and Eve and the creation, it brings her comfort. If you take that away from her I see no point in religion.

Edited by PalazioVecchio (04 Oct 2023 8.44am) They all walked into a bar together. The Apostate wanted to leave once the gay complained that the Jew called him a Nancy.
