We’ve been making excuses for Ward for the last 3 seasons. If I hear again “he’s been a great servant….blah blah , I’m going to run into the woods naked screaming.

Agree to an extent as he’s had his day but the abuse he gets is disgusting was only last year everyone calling for a testimonial for him , the boy looks after the kids look at him with Joe Whitworth the other day ! He’s the only one who seems to give a sh1t

Sad.

A lot of anger on here. Such is mine atm I thought it not worth the public demonstration of my disillusionment, despair and teenage-like hysteria over the past couple of hours.

I’m trying to just ignore it all for now and look towards Leicester. Didn’t expect anything today in any case plus objectively speaking that was always extremely unlikely. No intention to take the Michael but at least we scored today, it’s the smallest of glimmers, plus Wilf could have had a couple with better luck.

It all seems very, very dismal and hopeless but little point going mad over it. If anything I feel inclined to transfer my ire from PV to the players with that aimed at the board still present, but that’ll achieve nothing but me just winding myself up.

I’m going to invest in blind hope, quite sincerely. A couple weeks for someone new to come in, with fresh ideas and kick this lot up the ar5e to actually get something from games where it is far more possible.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It's been a terrible season for Palace but stay calm and think of Selhurst!

Roll the sleeves up time, Palace. Team's season needs an earnest reboot from the next match vs. Leicester City at home. From The Board to the players then the fans. Season restarts for The Eagles THEN after the international break. Draw breath....

No I’m not joking he was a great attacking player scored very important goals and had a relationship with Wilf , he was sold and never replaced which speaks volumes on its own

He was lazy and his later form for us was dreadful.

Moving on...

Of course the chairman didn't have to spend, but he did. No doubt in interview transfer funds was discussed for the necessity of replacements for those players who were out of contract and were not replaced. Had those funds not been spent we would most definitely have been contenders for relegation last season.
The point I am trying to make is that Lanzo is saying that Vieira has had xxx amount spent, but to me, that was a necessary spend, and it would have happened whoever took the role.

Roy did enough with the resources available to him, agreed. Treading water maybe, but it could be argued that that was his brief. Incidentally I disagree with your statement that Roy had far less resources and the players which are not near quality we have now. Roy is on record stating that he had his best squad ever...
Vieira this season has had a really poor squad to work with after the departure of Gallagher and Kouyate, and injury of McArthur. Add in some ageing players clearly not at the level anymore and it's no surprise we are where we are.
At the beginning of the season I predicted a 15/16/17th place finish. I didn't expect Vieira to be sacked. But now I'm considering that relegation is a very real possibility.

You can disagree but you are wrong.

How was Roy treading water you really need to do your research look at the league finishing places.

Roy didn't have less resources are you serious when did Roy spend close to 150m NEVER PV had this for not even 2 full seasons.

Roy didn't say that you have twittered his words so those Palace players was better then the England squad. YEAH OK

Again delusional what has Gallagher and Kouyate done since leaving NOTHING.

Mcarthur is 35 years old had been battling injury issues for many seasons. (21 & 18 games last few seasons)

We look like a tired side that needs a break. I listen to the likes of Pep and Arteta talking about how tired the players are and the need to rotate players and use the squad. They can afford to bench players like de Bruyne. We have just finished a horrendous run of tough games against the top teams in the league and used the same 15 players all the time. No wonder they look beaten and lost. Unfortunately that doesn’t put us in the best position to go again after the break. The other players in our first team squad may not be the best but we should have used them during these games instead of flogging a tired horse to death.

You train players fitness to style you play and lets say the staff are not good the manager should have forced the issue or walked from the club. (Pepe and Klopp first thing sthey did was sort fitness levels out)

Those two managers you mention have a valid reason playing more games and in the case of Arsenal they could be playing Thurs and Sat (quality of players do not matter these people are human)

The lineup we use was the managers choice he had others available it was clear to see players who was better options he had no interest in

Richards and Hughes looked good he then dropped them back to same old.

No reason to think the season will get any easier.
Leicester,Southampton,Leeds and Everton are all showing some fight, sadly missing from CPFC,who are sleep walking to relegation.

Agreed , what is more worrying was the argueing between players and also my most dissapointment was fans shouting and booeing Joel Ward, he’s Been a great servant and wouldn’t even have got here without him

To suggest we wouldn't be in the Premiership without Joel Ward is, quite frankly ridiculous. Yes he's been a great servant but being a great servant doesn't make you immune from criticism...
He hasn't been good enough for The Premiership for at least the last 3 seasons and today just exposed how poor he is at this level.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

"How was Roy treading water you really need to do your research look at the league finishing places."

11th / 12th /14th / 14th

After a very impressive first season progressively worse finishes, which could be argued were due to lack of investment and a number of players whom were in their last season as their contracts were due to expire and they weren't going to be renewed. Or perhaps you think it wasn't necessary to replace Cahill, Dann, Kelly et al?
Actually, Roy inherited a pretty decent side, Cabaye / Townsend / Benteke / Sahko / McArthur / Zaha / Puncheon / Dann etc, all good players at that point in time - to say Roy had a worse side than PV is utter bollocks.

PV 12th / 12th (so far)
The rebuild was big task and is still ongoing, I think we have some way to go yet. My point is, again, just in case you didn't get it, that those funds had to be spent to replace those players that had departed, whomever the manager would have been.
Whether the funds were invested wisely, or whether PV has got the best with the players provided is another point altogether.

To offer a middling perspective on this and the initial post to which it responded:

I don’t agree with the booing of Joel ward, not only does he seem like a good man but he has been a great servant. It might be technically inaccurate under intense scrutiny to say we wouldn’t be here without him but to support the sentiment he’s played a huge role.

All that said, and I don’t blame him personally, I’d suggest it was more than 3 seasons ago I’d started hoping we’d move in from him. AWB came in and I thought ‘finally’, but he went, and seasons later were still relying on Joel Ward when staring down the barrel. Encapsulates the ludicrous situation. I don’t know the ins and outs but I’d of started Clyne & Richards today if possible, Martinelli against Ward was like turning up to a gun fight with a slingshot and a rolling pin.
