My main reason for wanting PV gone is that I see it as our best chance of staying up. PV has shown week after week that he doesn’t know what to do with the squad he has and more importantly every single team has worked us out. We are going to struggle against the bottom teams just as much as we did against the top teams and we need something new to just get us over the line. We have the players to win enough games but they are just completely zapped of all confidence and we are falling apart. I would actually accept a heavy defeat against Arsenal if it meant we got someone new in for the home stretch. This season has been atrocious from start to now, and the warning signs were there before the World Cup . People are saying we have got some favourable games coming up but we are away to Leeds, Southampton, Wolves, Home to Everton and Leicester. All teams who are fighting for their lives. Our home form is rotten and our away form worse. Our only hope is changing the manager because we are in serious serious trouble.

I both don't really think he's the right manager anymore but also can't see the point in changing now. In the run up to the international break, our 10 fixtures have been against the teams in 3rd, 5th, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 6th, 11th, 2nd, 7th, 1st. That's an average of 5.3. Our final ten games are against the teams in 16th, 19th, 20th, 15th, 13th, 17th, 4th, 18th, 9th, 14th. An average of 14.5 There's zero point changing now and it could throw the club into turmoil, backfiring spectacularly. My view is that if Vieira was going to be given the ridiculously hard run, we might as well also give him the easy one. All it will take is a couple of goals and suddenly the confidence will come back. We even dominated Brighton for long periods last night, we just don't have a clinical striker and haven't really had one since promotion. My view is we should have enough to survive and finish mid-table, there's some real dross in that run in. Let him keep us up and either invest in the bloody squad in the summer and get the players he thinks he needs, or sack him them and get in Bielsa or Hassenhutl. Also, for the record, Kompany would be my absolute number one choice but he won't leave Burnley for us.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Bielsa would probably resign within a week.

Some interesting news on alternatives here. Apparently looking at Carrick (no idea how he's been doing or where he is?) or Kompany who seems to be hot property currently. The article is just guesswork as what it says is "Vincent Kompany and Michael Carrick of Middlesbrough among those who could be targeted "who could be targeted" is just guesswork

"Can't see the point in changing" say some but it could be the difference between going down and staying up. Think something has to change as we're currenty on a steep downward trajectory. We need to gamble and roll the dice to give ourselves a puncher's chance of staying up.

As stated before, who do we get it that will rapidly increase our chances of keeping us up? Gerrard, Lampard, Marsch or Nathan Jones who were in danger of taking their teams down. Allardyce or Roy, who failed in their last jobs. Carrick and Kompany will realise they are better off where they are. Hassenhuttl seems the only one who has the necessary experience and might be a better bet. I still think whoever we replace Vieira will still inherit a squad with as many holes as a string vest. To get a chance to make a difference a new manager would have to have been appointed 5-6 games ago. And whoever comes in will still have two poor forwards, two ageing right backs, one out of form left backs and several injury prone players. We are not an attractive proposition at the moment. It took us long enough to appoint Vieira. Anyone who we bring in is likely to be one of the failed names that I first listed. I just hope we don't try and encourage Roy back and risk tarnishing his reputation with us. Originally posted by bangkokeagle

Statistically, changing managers does not help clubs stay up. Need to double down and back Pat and the players

He is going to have to go for broke against Arsenal because a win is his only chance of staying in the job.

All true but I just think keeping Vieira means we are going down - look at all the performance stats and Crystal Palace are at the bottom of them since the turn of the year by most parameters. We run the least, we have had the fewest shots on target, fewest goals and we haven't won a game. It's all pointing in one direction. Another appointment would be a gamble, yes, but holding onto Vieira seems like ensuring only one outcome.
