However, we disagree on policy towards Russia....that's more a US state department thing that's independent of who's in charge, Trump or Biden. Though notably Trump has promised to rid the state department of its neo cons if elected again.....maybe this time he'll actually do it. The US has purely selfish motives for not wanting Germany and Russia to become closer....cheap energy being a significant one. People should note who economically benefits from that pipeline being blown (US/Norway). When our energy bills rise significantly in April some will reflect on that. A European power block that isn't dependent upon it and reliant upon its bases is another. In this Trump and the state department were at loggerheads as Trump actually thinks a militarily strong Europe is a good thing while the state department didn't.....I think the balance on that has changed now out of necessity. Trump has definitely been proven right on that....though as expected you won't hear a peep out of the mainstream left to acknowledge it. But that's only because it opposes their rival power block....one they have helped create themselves in BRICs. Never let anyone tell you that stupidity doesn't reign amongst the ruling elites. It's usually little more than self interest supported by educated words but little longer term wisdom....I sometimes feel like their are little better than gamblers....indeed stupidity is more likely to be rewarded.

Hancock on the back foot again over his take on Chris Whitty advice. Hancock himself, apart from ignoring expert advice, was out breaking Covid rules and shagging his secretary on public-funded expenses.

They were the ones saying the truth and those with power, supported by their lackeys and 'go alongs' were nodding along to lies. Edited by Stirlingsays (01 Mar 2023 4.43am) You are, at least, predictable! Since when did 2+2=10? That the origins of the Covid 19 pandemic were in a lab incident in Wuhan was always a reasonable possibility. Even a casual observer could have worked that out. That was never the issue. The issue was stating it as a fact, and not a possibility. What was worse was vloggers going further and suggesting that releasing it was a deliberate act. When other causes existed, and still exist because China hasn't confirmed anything, speculation remains unwise. Being likely isn't confirmation. It's a working hypothesis. Trump wasn't right. He picked up the possibility and politicised it to suit his own agenda. That was irresponsible. He foresaw the effect the pandemic would have on his Presidency and wanted to shift the blame. It was, and remains, entirely appropriate that those spreading speculation to support an agenda were taken to task. Not because they might have been right, but because when nobody was sure, caution was required. A similar thing is happening today with the release of some Matt Hancock messages on testing in care homes. This is Brexit level misinformation being spread around to support an agenda.

Edited by Forest Hillbilly (01 Mar 2023 8.20am) I anticipate that what was the reality at the time was that there wasn't then the testing capacity to test everyone going into care homes, so a priority group had to be determined. Everybody involved would have known that and therefore these messages are likely all about how to present this, without causing too much alarm. So they are being taken out of context and spun to match an anti-lockdown agenda. No doubt the coming days will reveal whether I am right.

Unsuited in every way for any kind of high office, let alone the de facto leader of the western world. That he managed to become POTUS is what "gets me".

Enquiry ,..bluster fudge. reminds me of a word,..what was it. ? filibustering Not in the dictionary sense , but Enquiries are often used to prolong / delay any outcomes, and by the time it's made public, those accountable are long gone, and the momentum to see justice is often dissipated. We , the public, and the NHS were let down massively by Johnson and his cronies. He's off into the distance with a massive amount of wonga. No cost of living crisis for him,...ever.

So the fact that Johnson admitted that was b****x after he got it and ended up in hospital and almost died is forgotten then. Just his initial 'billy big b****x' comment. Herd immunity does not always work. Polio, TB, German measles, mumps to name just a few. What about Ebola? We going to go with that narrative if that makes it over here?
