Really really pleased for the lad! People make jokes about him and his fitness but I can't even begin to imagine how hard this has been for him. He has been through hell so I am hoping this is the start of a proper comeback for him.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that. |

In all seriousness, everyone wants him to become injury free, but fragile players rarely grow out of it. You get the feeling he will always be between injuries rather than long term fit.

I know he’s a footballer and he wants to play, but I wouldn’t feel too sorry for him, he’s become a multi millionaire since joining us with out actually contributing anything, so ‘been through hell’ is pushing it a bit

We were here before with people actually suggesting Wickham was swinging the lead. Honestly who would dream of all the glory of top flight football but then be happier having the medical team keeping him side lined for years. That is especially if there is a ready berth tantalisingly waiting for him when match fit.

Still needs to be treated carefully over the coming weeks and months. Too much too soon and that could be it. A run in the reserves, with perhaps little cameo appearances in the 1st team. If all goes well, them perhaps featuring more in the New Year. He would save us a fortune if he recovers full fitness, and finally have a right back not over 30, and have fitness to cope with pace. He is primarily a centre back as the position he played last night.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Having never worked behind the scenes in professional football I'm pretty ignorant of what it takes concerning talent vs conditioning but I really wonder just what kind of future or contribution any player, however special, can make when they havn't been playing the sport for a number of years.
