Otherwise are people permanently condemned.....which is probably the best way of demoralising and encouraging reoffending. It's probably why you need people in probation services with their heads screwed on right who make rational judgements.....another hard but vital job.

Footballers have fame and fortune which they can abuse they are in constant contact with young people. I think professional sport should be in that category as well. That doesn't mean that these people should not have the chance of rehabilitation but they forgo the right to their chosen career. Three issues here. Does a civil trial make you guilty when you have been acquitted by a court of law? Should you be allowed to resume normal life if you have served your sentence, or are violent crimes an exception? As Stirling said. Would making someone persona non grata actually encourage further crime? More importantly for me. Do we continue to have trial by mob? This seems to be becoming a regular theme. Pressure groups are dictating policy and this cannot continue.

I was referring to a general comment about convicted sex offenders. You was, but what do we do with them when they come out? Football players are like rock stars and get young girls throwing themselves. I remember what they did to Freddie Starr and I'm not always comfortable with it. Don't get me wrong for one moment, I'm not defending someone who goes out there with the intention of shagging anyone under the age of consent nor someone who forces themselves or drugs someone. But I think if we judged the Stones and the Beatles and all the major bands of the past by these times they would all be labelled sex offenders. Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Feb 2022 10.08am)

Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Feb 2022 10.08am) To be clear they should be treated no different to a teacher or Doctor or Scout leader who is a convicted sex offender. They need to be rehabilitated but certain careers must be blocked.

Cool, but you would pretty much have no music, movie and entertainment industry outside of Disney. Come to think of it maybe that would be a good thing.

So football should be included in that? I must say that in his position, I might have kept a low profile, but he has to earn a living somehow.

Someone suggested that perhaps footballers don't have much contact with young people and so are not a risk. 1. Nearly all professional clubs have youth teams boys and girls etc. They will often interact with the senior pros, free tickets to games etc. Barry Bennell abused hundreds of starry eyed boys desperate to make it. It is very easy for a coach or senior pro to manipulate younger players if they want to. 2. Fans, probably the biggest opportunity is the starry eyed fans asking for selfies and autographs this is how Adam Johnson seduced a 15yo. 3. Charity / community work. Most football clubs insist that the senior players do community work the vast majority of this involves interacting with schools and youth clubs, again another opportunity for the evil minded. 4. Team mates. This doesn't get mentioned but how would you feel if the club told you your new team mate was a convicted sex offender. You might but okay with that then again... Frankly I am surprised with all the scandals involving professional sport in this country and others that there are no laws about banning players etc.
