I hope that in the window we can find Buyers for Benteke and Luka, and replace both even if one is a loan, Mateta must be F*****g Awful if he cant even get on the bench, bet he will get a bucket full when he leaves.

The morning after a frustrating night. We weren't great but then I don't think we were pants either. We clearly miss Andersen and McArthur and haven't as yet found the best replacements for them from within the squad. Ayew showed exactly why he plays in certain games. I'm willing him to score again so as to build up some confidence. Good to see Hughes come on and he clearly wanted to get stuck in and impress. He was involved in the few good things we did in the last 10 minutes or so. I'd start him against Manure simply because I think he will provide the energy and tackling that will take some of the pressure off Gallagher who as has been said by others looked really knackered last night. So, Ward will miss the Manure game and Gallagher is 1 yellow away from suspension. Could well see him picking up a yellow against Manure and missing the Everton game. Agree with this, maybe im clutching at straws here, but, Manure have 4 players all on 4 yellows(not incl Maguire, he's on 3). You have Shaw, Pogba, Fred & interestingly, Fernandez. Utd play Arsenal at home on Thursday night.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Having watched the game i thought it was a vast improvement on the villa performance, we were the better team on the night, the intensity was good, the midfield better balanced without two DM, Hughes had a good cameo and schlupp played ok, Zaha is not the player he was, he has lost his pace, and the one thing i really don't understand is the when Edouard plays instead of Benteke he plays 90% of the time on the Left with Wilf central, then when Benteke comes on he goes central and Wilf goes left, and amazingly i thought Ayew was our best player. For once I agree with you.

Just got home, stayed in Leeds… In my opinion, best ground in the Prem and the Leeds fans were superb throughout. First 10 mins they were very vocal and it was hostile. Cheered them off like they’d just won the cup. After those 10 mins we were probably marginally the better side but didn’t do enough to earn the win. A draw would have been the fairest result. Improved performance from the Villa game, just a minor blip in form, keep the faith in PV. Thought Mitchell and Kouyate were great. Both won a lot of tackles and looked composed on the ball. Ward struggled a bit with Raphinia’s (?) pace, but did ok. Zaha and Gallagher not quite up to their high standards. Zaha’s loss of pace is becoming a problem for him and he’s nowhere near his best (doubt he ever will be again). Edouard held the ball up well first half but faded as the game went on, we looked far more dangerous when Big Ben came on. Hughes made a few good touches and showed signs of promise, looking forward to seeing more of him. For me, our stand out player was Ayew. Thought he had a blinder. Strong on the ball, physical in the tackle, made some dangerous runs, wins some free kicks and was a constant thorn for Leeds. The gamble to replace him with Olise and go for the win backfired sadly, but I think most were in favour of that call at the time. Bloody long way to go midweek for a loss like that. Oh well, onwards and upwards, we’ve got the strength in depth now to make the necessary tweaks. The early season optimism seems to have fizzled out over the past 3 games, but this was also going to be a building season.

No surprise that the penalty came from a corner over on the Leeds left. In fact all of their attacking play seemed to be on that side. Ward was getting exposed a number of times. He will be suspended for the next match and it will be interesting to see if the new player fairs any better with pacy wingers. First live game I watched due to Amazon Prime and enjoyed our new system of play, even though the result was a disappointment. Gallagher is such a good player, getting out of positions that seem impossible and very difficult to get off the ball. No wastefulness, a type of player we have craved for, for many a season. Ayew also had a bit of energy about him first half but lacked confidence in front of goal. How Schlupp stayed on the pitch for 80 mins is any ones guess. You could count on one hand the number of times the commentator mentioned him. Leeds brought on 2 attacking subs half time and perhaps we should of followed suit. He should of gone then. Also not sure why we seemed to be time wasting from 60 mins. Guaita's kicks were not effective and he clearly lacks confidence as he was allowing Tomo to take them when he could. Tomo also doesn't look confident taking the ball out from the back and put us in danger with some poor balls. Deserved something from the game but not to be. Fair few like that this season but onward and upward. COYP !!

Now the dust has settled a little I feel I can post a more measured response. Leeds weren’t great, and didn’t create a lot. But they do have a couple of great players, and to be fair to them they worked really hard and pressed us well. Anderson is a HUGE miss. JT can defend, but he cant really pass. Wen he did play it on the ground the passes weren’t snappy or ahead of the players (He put Marc in trouble a couple of times), so we saw him going long quite a lot. This completely changes the game we play, and so we struggled to build and hold position, hence why the game was so open and scrappy. Leeds helped make this happen by always pushing onto MG leaving JT free to receive the pass from keeper. They would then press him and he’d sh1t himself. Ayew deserves a lot of credit, played a lot of smart football and was important in helping us transition our play. Olise would have struggled if in from the start I think. Midfield was ok, and good to see Hughes get on. But because Tompkins was going long so often, they never really got the ball to feet in the areas they would have liked. Despite the misses Benteke was more effective than OE (though he needs to play as a CF). Gave us an outlet and more of a goal threat, but he’s got to be scoring that header. The pen was unfortunate, headed into his arm at point blank range. Maybe he shouldn’t have had his arm there, but these things happen. Another disappointing result, but given that we are a few important players down we gave it a good go. You cant fault the effort. Lets hope that Anderson is back in time for the weekend, and maybe Hughes can come into the team and now do a job. For me the most glaring issue we have is that our CB’s are vital to playing the way we want to play. And we only have 2 in our squad that can do what we need them to do. We wither need to get some better back up, or learn how to play if we lose either/both to injury.

Yeah okay…get rid of our only player that remotely looks like scoring at the moment. That makes sense.
