My two penn'orth on the dropping of points:

If you draw a home game - any home game - you can rightly say that you have dropped two points.

If you draw a game - home or away - that you ought to have won, then a different phrase is needed; "thrown away" perhaps.

Ergo on Monday we dropped two points because we threw away two points (some might say). Today we dropped two points and Leicester threw away two points (their fans might say, although we might differ from that view).

As an aside, what I hate is when the so-called experts in the media say that two teams who have drawn have "shared the points". No they haven't; they've each taken a point. To share the points, each team would go away with one and a half.

Morning YT,

Seeing as we are in semantics territory here, may I suggest that 3 points are only available for a won game; there are 2 points available for a drawn game, therefore the 2 teams drawing have indeed “shared the points”.

With a bit of luck, we would have won of all our 4 draws. One of the first things you learn as a young footballer - never dribble as the last man. Well, Andersen did and was punished. Think the Dane will learn from it. BTW, he and his partner are solid gold - we are so lucky to have that duo in central defence.

I also thought Wilf did little in the game and generally gave the ball away on a regular basis. This though i think is a positive as in the past when Wilf was not playing we struggled to create chances. Now with people like Olise, Eduard & Eze we have other sources of players who can create chances at this level.

Interesting as I thought he was our best player yesterday. He doesn't skin players like he used to, but his upper body strength and ability to turn and create space in phenomenal. His link up play with Mitchell and the other attacking players was excellent. He did scuff a chance which fell to him at the Holmesdale end though. The opposition are still terrified of him so just having on then pitch creates more space for others.

What happened yesterday - why did we play against Holmesdale in the first half?

Yes, we lost the coin toss. Surely this should happen more often as the obvious thing to do when winning the toss away is to change ends and knock the home team out of their routine.

The home team will always shoot at their main end second half - Liverpool at the Kop, Villa at the Holte End etc.

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. Although it didn't stop us getting a couple in the Whitehorse end.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Wilf has been having a good season. Just because he had an average game you don't drop him. Schlupp is an ideal impact sub really as he's fast and direct. When he starts he seems to lack focus and his passing isn't the best, but when he has a simple instruction (i.e. get in the box) he seems to thrive. Olise on the other hand will surely be edging Ayew out soon for a starting place based on that cameo. Ayew has been a model pro but if we are to progress we need more than just hard work and endeavour from our front players. Edouard will prove to be a great signing. A little bit more sharpness and he'll start banging them in. Compared to Bentenke he seems to be in the right place at the right time with the ability to create space for a shot and actually get one away.

So we keep quietly improving, largely ignored by the media. Ok so it's only 7 points, but we've already played 5 out of the top 7 from last season, plus two of the most in form teams this season. Keep progressing like this and a top 10 finish might not be out of the question.

Agree with this TL. I was surprised, though, that Edouard thumped that shot that hit the bar. He was known at Celtic for cheekily rolling it in the net or dinking it over the keeper etc. and accused of not thumping it when he should have. Yesterday was crying out for him to pass it into the opposite corner. Having said that, I think he's going to be great for us. He presses well and finds space in tight situations and brings others into play.

I think the toss should only be for who kicks off. The home team should always be given the choice which way they want to kick 1st half

Seven games in, Viera looks to be a fine manager. However, in Gallagher, Guehi, Olise, Edouard, Andersen (except for the past 100 minutes) and perhaps Hughes, he is blessed with talent far livelier and more skilled than Roy ever managed at Palace. And Mitchell's minutes at the end of last season helped him to make a huge leap forward.

So I think it's possible to say Vieira is a wonderful manager, and Hodgson was, too. There is simply no way Hodgson could have set up his players to press high and control the ball as Viera wants HIS players to do.

the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. I can't imagine that Vieira would have played exactly like Roy had he had the same squad because they weren't capable of anything better. You only have to look at Ward and Luka to see that they are capable of more than what Roy got out of them (or didn't get out of them).

Which players did Roy actually improve? Yes he worked on shape and solidity and working hard without the ball, but that's not necessarily improving the individual. I get the impression that Vieira is looking at the individuals and challenging them to do things that haven't been asked of them before.

Their whole football philosophy is different. As some have said - it's comparing apples with pears or oranges or whatever, which is valid to a point. But my main question is whether Roy's philosophy is fit for purpose, and I don't think it is any more.

Anyway, what a great comeback yesterday!

I'm sure almost no one watched PV coach NYCFC; I did and he always played high intensity. He was a very good coach, although he couldn't put the pieces together to win the league. What he did with Harrison was amazing, it's why Leeds values him so much. A great coach makes every player better.

Look how he's made Wardy and Luka into new players. I was just amazed today seeing Wardy in the middle of the pitch, under previous managers he basically hugged the right sideline. I actually voted for Ward as my player of the month in September.

I also LOVE watching us play. We've only been completely outplayed in one game - Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Had to say I was worried after that game. Now I'm super excited. I really think we can challenge any team. Super excited against Arsenal, I think they'll crumble under us.

Onwards and Upwards!

Or Townsend if he had stayed ?

The Manager, team, squad I see as still very much Work In Progress.

But certainly heading in the right direction.

It was good to see the crowd yesterday sticking with the team at 0-2 down and giving encouragement to the players as it was hard to take given the way that the play had gone.

This League is unforgiving - 3 individual errors in 2 games have been fully punished. You can't legislate for such events but it tells you a lot about the character of the players involved and the team as a whole, when they come back as they did.

Good to see Olise have the impact that he did. PV is managing his minutes prudently I think. His time will definitely come so it would be good to see the usual bores on here laying off of Ayew.

I'm sure there will be some more bumps in the road in the coming months, but so far this is an enjoyable journey.
