Unless we were able to poach an experienced PL manager then we will struggle with the squad we have if Roy left (and even then we probably would). For all his detractors Roy knows how to get points and win ugly and while he clearly has flaws (such as his seeming inability to change things during the game) I believe he would see us comfortably mid-table again next season. Our ageing, depleted and small squad is not designed for playing two games a week on a regular basis and it has cost us since the lockdown. I don't understand why he still refuses to start Meyer or why Riedewald isn't getting more game time, but when you think these are the only fully-fit senior options available that are not defenders you can see what a task Roy has. I was listening to Peter Crouch saying how Pulis did zero work with the attacking players and just left them to it while focusing solely on the defensive side of the game. Sometimes it does feel like that is the case with us, but without a play maker we struggle when the 'stick it down the left channel' doesn't work. Maybe as well as some new players we could do with a new coach to work alongside Roy and Ray who could bring some new ideas to the attacking side of our game with the view to possibly succeeding Roy? I don't think there are many people desperate to keep Roy, I just think there are many, like me, who recognise that he has been given very little support and has somehow made us comfortable with very limited resources. The one thing that gives me hope is how well he had us playing at times when we had RLC. If we could get another high-quality player or two like that again I think we might see a different Palace.

But what is telling with many of you who are screaming Roy out is you fail to provide any serious suggestions as to what then. Who do you seriously think we can attract and will do a better job with what we have? It's easy to shout it needs to change (I don't think many would disagree) but not so easy to come up with solutions. Edited by Mwncisee (21 Jul 2020 11.34am)

The argument would then go that Hodgson could never replaced if a suitable candidate didn’t seem to be available to replace him at the time.

And if you look back in this thread you will see I have repeatedly stated that we are all getting into a debate about the symptoms (Roy, aging squad, tactics, player selection etc) and not the cause which is an ownership and financing that is stagnant and stuck in the doldrums. Also if your argument is its not our job, which it isn't then its also not our job to pick the team, tactics and anything else, and let's face it we all do that! Can't have it both ways. Read some of my posts which say that too. Unfortunately the anti Hodgson brigade only see one person to blame for everything.

Edited by Mwncisee (21 Jul 2020 11.34am) it's not the fans' job to come up with a solution - that's for the people that are paid handsomely at CPFC to identify and recruit the management and coaching team that will move the club forward. I think it's fair to say that we've burned through all the 'tried and tested' 'safe hands' Prem managers, so it is time to re-look at the ingredients of the chap to next take the reins. That work should have been being done over the last few years. Time will tell if that's the case.

None of it is our job! But we all have views etc. It's not the fans job to have a manager sacked but many are calling for it. Again, can't have it both ways and if this is hitting the head of this it is illustrating just how hard it must be for the club to decide. Its a stick or twist situation with the risk of going bust.

For the record I would go with Dyche. A palace type I feel.
