According to Chris Williams, a sports journalist for German football:

"Alexander Sørloth to Leipzig is a tricky situation! Player has agreed terms, yet is still officially owned by Crystal Palace, but he’s on loan at Trabzonspor. The Turkish side can’t activate the purchase option unless he plays 50% of next season’s games.

That isn't my understanding as it has been written many times that Trabzonspor have to buy Sorloth at the pre agreed price if he plays more than 50% of next season's games and can buy him beforehand if they wish.

Surely the most likely scenario is that Trabzonspor will exercise their option to buy him now and then immediately sell him on to whoever

It could be possible that the agreement was that they had to buy him if he played 50% of games (with this being designed to ensure Palace get a sale) but that there is nothing in the contract about being able to buy him before then (with neither party expecting that to be an issue until AS suddenly started firing them in). Thus we possibly find ourselves in a situation where they have nothing in writing to say they can buy him now but still have an agreement for another year on the loan. It could then come down to us negotiating a share of the sale.

All speculation of course.

Well something is affecting the transfer. It does seem Palace has an angle. I’d say the journalist’s assertion sounds credible. So maybe the situation isn’t the write-off we had assumed

From what I have read, somewhat bizarrely they cannot buy him until the end of the 2 years. If this is correct, we are definately in the driving seat but it does seem that, no-one seems to actually know

I asked this question the other day are they allowed to do that? I thought there is some sort of restriction on how often a player can move within one season?

I think if they buy him now they have to pay the amount in full straight away. The likelihood is any purchasing club would then want to buy in instalments so it's very likely that Trabzonspor would be worse off financially in the short term if they purchased now, which I don't think they are in a position to be in.

If they buy for £6m and the next club buys for £12m but pays over 3 years then they'd be £2m down on this years cash flow.

I feel like this whole situation is going to be resolved in a court after certain potential scenarios weren't stipulated in the contract between Trabzonspor and Palace.

Incidentally what ever happened to that Cardiff situation with the striker that died in the plane crash?

I don't think they have money to buy. They are banned from europe due to fpp. It therefore seems likely they would accept a buy out of loan/% of fee we get as this would get rid of fpp problems

Like ever financial tangle it is easily sorted by sitting down (or zooming today) and thrashing it out.
If he wants to go to Leipzig and not come back to Palace then between the three teams a deal could be done quite easily with some give and take.
Will common sense prevail - unlikely!

Cardiff had to pay first instalment but I do not know after that. Feel sorry for Nantes
