7 out of 12 points good enough start but we need to create more chances.

Palace weren't lucky, it was a thoroughly deserved win.
Grealish had been diving all afternoon and got his just deserts.

Lucky or otherwise I just think we looked a better balanced side with Zaha on the right and Schlupp then Townsend on the left. Even though I don’t think any of them played anywhere near their best, we managed to get a few crosses in.... OMG!!!!

Meyer brings a lot more to this team them Macca.

It's definitely an argument but I think Hodgeson values Macca as a leader on the pitch.....actually more than the captain.

Ah! but yes, but no, but.....

if the players had half as much yearning to do better as the fans on this site do, then we'd be champions of Europe

I fail to see why nearly every post of yours has a negative twist. What do you expect, we totally dominated the game with 22 shots on another day, more may of gone in.
When your attacking option on the bench is Benteke, most can understand why he kept Ayew on as long as possible. Don't mention Meyer he brings nothing to the team.

I agree 100%. Roy sets the side up to be compact and hard to beat. It isn’t the prettiest viewing but is getting results and has been for some time. We deserved to win today and delighted for Ayew to score who had an excellent game and is currently everything that Benteke is not.

Macca is better at defending which is what Roy is all about also looks bit more mobile at times but that could be tactics with Roy sticking max out on the left side all the time when the guy is central attacking/mid guy.

Allow play to continue for an offside; sure, as is the current guidance I believe, but you can't allow play to continue if you think an attacking player has committed a misdemeanor such as a foul or handball or, in this case, a simulation. Otherwise, you may as well dispense with the referee entirely - or at least take his whistle away.

I entirely agree with the point you've reiterated, Badger, in that play stops with the whistle therefore VAR can't 'correct' a decision made.

They didn't with Benteke

I disagree. If the ref sees a dive, he has to blow the whistle.

Correct. And the Palace fan on 606 tonight saying that the ref got it wrong by blowing up was an embarrassment.

Yep, I must admit I was impressed with the performance today and I don't see that Aston Villa side going down either.

Yep. Some are going to be surprised on my view today.

I’m interested in whether Roy looked at villa’s left side being weaker, which it was, and decided to put Zaha there, or this is the new plan to have Zaha right wing and a left footer left wing. I hope it’s all of those as I was really pleased to see it. We created loads of ‘chances’ in the first half which were dangerous low balls whipped across the goalmouth just missed by players (plural in most cases) sliding in with intent to meet the balls they probably knew was the order of the day. Good.

It was as if Roy and the team had read HOL early in the week.

It wasn’t a great performance but it’s a start if there is a real effort to evolve out of being the bore draw at best home team and into a side that makes more of our advantage over opponents at home.

Pleased at HT we were trying to win. Pleased for Ayew to be rewarded again for his hard work. Pleased for Roy if he’s getting out of this 0-0 preference, pleased and relieved we didn’t fvck it up at the end, which can happen after however many chances we had and the opposition are still in the game score wise.

Pleased to come away pleased. Some of you will be shocked. Hopefully we’re going to develop and improve this ‘different skill set to winning at manure’ that Roy spoke about and hopefully that first half was a good sign of that. We’ll find out after spurs away when we have wolves and Norwich at home. Hopefully by then we’ll have developed something.

Feeling positive and optimistic. There you go!
