For heavens sake give the bloke a chance. FdB is having a look at what he's got to work with. Some positives Zaha looked sharp and Anderson did well so not all doom and gloom as some would have us all think. Must admit I would like to see a more positive transfer window as at present looking well short of what we need.

This was 'work in progress' and we looked outclassed.
It was our first game and in 30C heat and high humidity.
Some of the team are so obviously unsuited to a possession/passing game (Delaney, Ward and, regrettably, Puncheon) and so a lot of experiment and practice is needed.

We will be stronger in this department when Cabaye and Loftus-Cheek start. We have other gifted ball players in Lee and Williams, given the chance.

In the second half it was basically our reserve team.
Hennessey had a good game no matter what anybody on this (and other) threads say. Absolutely no chance with either goal (the first did NOT go under him!)

Townsend just could not get in a cross and at this rate Benteke is going to be starved.

I can see and say definitely now that Zaha is going to need protection as, sooner or later, he is going to be crocked and we have no cover for him.

All in all nothing I saw gave me much cause for anxiety.

So what's changed since last season, according to this thread? Apparently very little. Hennessey is still either OK or awful and is at fault for every goal we concede, whereas Zaha is brilliant all the time, although we failed to score for the firth time in 6 games (if you include the end of last season).

Unbelievable. We play an experimental team in a friendly in pre-season, lose 2 - 0 to a bin dippers team which has already had a couple of games and has completed some transfer business, and people are in meltdown.

Ridiculous.

I have to fervently disagree with you.
I really do not think that Lee and Williams are of PL quality.

I also, at this moment in time don't see Townsend as a wing-back as he is just not good enough defensively. In a 3-4-3 I believe he should be in the top three and not as a right wing-back.

Turn it in, frank de Boer bought in 1 player, he wants to change the philosophy. Cast your mind back to when big Sam was in charge. If you want instant success, I guess Palace isn't the club for you.

It's an entire forum of Simon Jordans!

Wouldn't be the HOL if it hadn't gone into meltdown!

A great pre season opener against quality opposition for a change in pre season allowing FdB to see what he has got and what we need for the first time. On the business front it exposes us to another market and sponsors. We are in HK for two reasons:
1. Pre season training
2. Money

Thats it folks lets not get excited

Didn't see the game but read we played 3 at the back. Can anyone let me know the formation and position the players played in..?

Thanks

The pre-match chat/graphic had us as a 3-4-3 formation thus:

Ward - Dann - Delaney

Townsend - Punch - Milo - Schlupp

Anderson - Benteke - Wilf

The suggestion from commentators then was that Townsend and Schlupp were playing as wing backs. I watched the game and it looked more like a 4-4-2 with Schlupp on the left, Wilf left midfield and Anderson/Benteke upfront.
