I know for a fact that he wants to play every week - not sit on a bench.

Edited by The Dolphin (30 Jul 2015 8.50pm)

No one is going to play every week, here or almost anywhere else. Yes, a few clubs like Chelsea with Diego Costa have a predominantly "one-forward" system but they are increasingly rare and, with Costa's problematic hamstring apparently playing up again in pre-season, it's pretty clear why. If being a squad forward is good enough for Dzeko, Falcao or Negredo, not to mention Rickie Lambert then frankly it's good enough for Murray. Some of you have a surreal view of the world.

The fact is that Bamford, Wickham, Gayle and Murray will all get playing time this season and I suspect that unless one of them goes on a tear towards 20 goals, it will be more evenly divided among them than you might think. To imagine that Murray is a 38-game starter for a top 8 Premier League team when the aforementioned players don't even aspire to that is laughable (great player as GM is, by the way.) Get real.

Maybe I should be more specific.
He wants to be first/second choice not 3rd choice which he will be if we buy Wickham.
On Murray's starts last season he is better than a goal every two games and on appearances one every two.
Wickham cannot hold a candle to that.
That is real!
also - if you want consistency then you play your best centre forward week after week not change them every two games - that would be a disaster!
Real enough for you?

No way is GM up to a 38 games plus season.

I know it won't happen and I know that he can't do that but one of them needs to be the main man and if Wickham comes then it won't be Murray in any way, shape or form.
Keith Millen said last season - when Murray went to Reading - that he was a player who wanted to play and not just sit there drawing wages.
I would like to see Murray given one more season - that's all.

Mate the whole 'he wants to play every week' thing is pretty redundant. Every footballer worth his salt wants to start every game and be the man. Wickham will get a chance to start just like the rest of them and its massively unrealistic to think that Murray will both stay in form and healthy for the whole season.

Oh and wickham is 22, he could realistically have a long career with us so even if he's not the main guy this year there is no reason for him to not be in a year or 2. Murray should be a great teacher for him

You always play your best team but even if the first choice 11 remain fit the stop being your best team when 3 or 4 of them start showing signs of fatigue

Sky sources also understand Sunderland striker Connor Wickham is undergoing a medical and discussing personal terms with Crystal Palace, ahead of his proposed move to the London club.

Surprised they're letting him go tbh. Fletcher and Defoe represent an ageing perma-crocked front line...enter Austin?

I went to watch Ipswich v Palace under 18s back in 2009ish? Anyway, Palace lost in extra time and a 16 year old Ipswich striker scored 4, that player was Connor Wickham!
Connor may have had a few quiet years, but trust me, his potential is huge. Playing him on left at Sunderland was a joke, I just hope it's not ruined his confidence. I expect him to lead our line and do well. Would be great if he netted at Carrow Road as I'm sure he will be booed whenever he touches the ball!

Loving the Palace rollercoaster ride....
