Well, considering its effect upon this country and Scotland in particular i can see why she zero-ed in on it.

I'm sorry, i wasn't sure if zeroed was a word or needed a hyphen. I'll know for the future.

Because they're not very popular. Still, once upon a time UKIP and the Greens were a nothing party in elections.

Ukip and the Greens, are in terms of votes, not on the same page.

The problem with the hard left is that while some of their policies like re-nationalisation and protection of services, increased house building will always gain support from a cross section of society.....Even some Tories in some respects...All together it would probably ruin us.......Other policies though completely close support off.

Defence spending....CND nuclear disarmament. Anti Americanism.......Egalitarianism on a major scale in action.

Edited by Stirlingsays (28 Jul 2015 2.07pm)

Tbf at least they are upfront about defence spending unlike George 'porky pies' Osborne [Link]

Yep, I totally agree with you.

The Tories are lying about 2 percent.

At least the hard left are honest.....It's a shame in society that it rarely gets you anything.....Well, to be fair it's maybe paying for Corbyn now because people will join and vote for someone they think has principles.

Even if I feel that some of them aren't exactly sensible.

Those other three contenders don't mind lying everytime they open their mouths.....Your regular career politicians.

The SNP won in Scotland because they're not the Conservatives/Labour/Lib dems etc, not because they're anti-austerity.

Please stop trotting out that s***.

Please equally stop attributing every new member to the Greens, SNP and Labour as being 100% down to anti-austerity. It's because they're anti-tory or this surge would've happened when austerity was implemented during the coalition government.

Corbyn is a gift and a half to the Conservative party, no matter how (divided) Labour try to dress it up.

The SNP won in Scotland because they were anti-austerity. Corbyn would be a problem for the conservative party by moving the centre-ground to the left.

No they didn't. The SNP won in Scotland because they're Scottish and the Scottish hate the conservatives.

You can't move the centre-ground to the left, he can only move Labour to it if he wins their leadership election. Even the left wing papers today agree that this would be suicide for Labour.

The SNP won because the Labour vote fell away - it's worth remembering that the Tories and Labour have the same number of seats in Scotland.

The SNP won because they were not austerity lite like Labour have been.

They'd be austerity max if they'd won the independence vote. All those models based on the soaring value of oil at the time, which has since halved.

Yes, if you present any sort of argument. Just stating lies won't get very far unless you are a tory politician.

Why didn't the English electorate vote for anti-austerity parties like TUSC then?

I think the SNP did well as the Scottish electorate concluded they were the party that best stands up for Scotland and that Scottish interests would best be served by a strong SNP in parliament. To my mind it wasn't down to so called "Austerity".

There is some truth in this. The SNP certainly portrayed themselves as an anti-austerity party, but their actual record in government isn't great when trying to back up that claim.

There is no doubt that some of their votes were gained as a forceful alternative to the pro-austerity narrative that dominates in England. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous.

But equally there is a strong element that voted for them either because they felt they were the party most committed to representing local Scottish causes and views and/or they restored some sense of pride in Scotland as a nation.

The SNP won in Scotland but lost the independence vote because the Scots like a free lunch whilst complaining about the ingredients.
