Yes, as part of spurs taking the Olympic stadium they proposed a new athletic stadium at Crystal Palace, as part of the development CPFC would’ve moved there into a new football stadium too. Instead they gave the stadium to West Ham and we subsidise them Edited by Bearcage (20 Jul 2022 8.34pm)

I've got a facsimile of the infamous 1906 CPFC handbook. You will see for yourself the multiple times it refers to the club's first season. It does not say anything about an amateur club. Manning says: "When the professional club published its first handbook in 1906, having joined Division 2 of the Southern League, it listed some of the internationals who had previously represented the club, including Alex Morten in 1873 and Arthur Savage and Charles Eastlake Smith in 1876, showing that they recognised themselves as a continuation of the original amateur team." Did they? He doesn't say is that this is buried in a list of general football 'Records and Facts' on the last page of the handbook. Manning has ripped this line out of context. If and when we one day return home to Crystal Palace, we will unreservedly be able to claim 1861

My wife gave me Peter Manning's book, Palace at The Palace for Christmas. Very well researched and an interesting read which provides pretty compelling evidence that our club originated in 1861.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

What was the compelling evidence? In those days football as we know it, was in its infancy and teams were mainly formed by members of cricket clubs who wanted something to do in the winter. In 1861 the Crystal Palace Cricket Club decided to form their own football club. It satisfies me anyway! Read the book, it's fascinating in many ways.

There's a website on the old Crystal Palace club – [Link] This bit sums it up for me This claim has been disputed by football historians and also rejected by the Football Association after a detailed review by the National Football Museum. The FA told The Times in April 2022: “Amongst those historians, the broad consensus is that there is not a clear, substantial and continuous link from the Crystal Palace club founded in 1861 to that founded in 1905. Therefore, we will continue to recognise both the 1861 and 1905 foundation dates of the clubs named Crystal Palace.” The sooner that 1861 comes off the current club's crest, the better as far as I am concerned.

It was members of the cricket club, not the cricket club. Anyhow, the football club folded in 1876. A new club of the same name started three decades later that had nothing to do with the old club. I've read the book and Manning has provided no evidence to the contrary. It's funny that the club historian hasn't come to the same conclusion.
