I didn't think sexual orientation was a choice?

Clearly I'm guessing but I suspect when it comes to this level of abuse then it is a choice. Rolf likes women but his fame gave him access to girls. He tried it, liked it & chose to continue doing it. I'm thinking the taboo & power aspect would add an extra thril.

Paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder. A diagnosable condition. It is also illegal.

Talking about it as a sexuality a la heterosexuality and homosexuality is approaching it from the wrong angle.

But why would he 'try it' if he wasn't already inclined towards it? Doesn't seem logical.

So then, if it's a psychatric disorder then how can it be described as a choice?

Tricky, it can be a sexual disorder, and is classed as a fetish but thats not really applicable in most cases. But then so was homosexuality classed as a fetish of sexual disorder for a long time.

Its like all human sexuality, its much more complex than people tend to give it credit for. Human sexuality is fairly fluid, and preferential.

Most people are probably bi(ish), and then preferential, and will have experimented to some degree. A minority seem to be 'fixed' in that they know from a very young age. But mostly people are kind of sexual.

The same is probably true of child sex offenders. Some are prefential, some are experimenting/thrill seeking through breaking tabboos and others are probably a fixed orientation, who've only ever been attracted to youth.

Then of course some offenders just are attracted to pre-pubecscent, and others are young teen offenders. Some like girls, some like boys, and some like them both.

Power, control & taboo can all be aphrodisiacs

Also convenience, or curisoity.

Its worth remembering that around 50% of child sex offenders have the mental age of a child or young teen themselves, even if they have an adult body and urges. Consequently they struggle to form relationships with people their own age, but bond with children their own mental age. of course the difference is that they have fully developed sexuality - so its hardly surprising they establish sexual contact with other children.

You arrest them and they go through the court process -where a jury of 12 people and a judge will hear the evidence and a judgement will be made. I imagine that judgement will be different dependent upon circumstance. Thats what happened to Harris. I have a genetic desire for busty blond women but guess what - I don't just go and get one, touch one, grope one etc without her consent as that is wrong and I would deserve punishment irrespective of my genetic propensity.

Like I said, sex with children should....No needs to be connected to prison time. But that's because it doesn't fit with how we need society to work.

You're not really addressing the hypocritical nature of society when it comes to facing up to genetic propensity in this area. The debate is often stone age.

The statement about consent doesn't fit the circumstance because consent in terms of children under 16 isn't giveable in law.
