Hopefully her legacy will die with her. We are still suffering from her menage a trois with Reagan and neo liberalism.

Exactly. Which is why the Lady provokes still 23 years after being evicted from No.10.

See that nasty unemployable anti-social chav drinking too many alcopops and holding a nasty pitbull?

It didn't exist in early 1979. But, by early 1989 the first crop were about to be released onto society.

And her three boyfriends aren't much better.

What a load of absolute rubbish!

I lived it. You didn't.

Doesn't mean your memory is correct.

The rise of the chav and ladette was most definitely the 1990s.

For all the hate espoused within this thread, does anyone think that any other ex-PM will have as many positive comments when they die as Mrs T has?

Twas early 1990's in truth that it all began - the rise in teenage alcohol consumption and the start of binge drinking from sweet bottled drinks marketed for young people - but the foundations were being laid well in advance.

Stop moving the goalposts.

I blame specifically this Alcopop launched in 1995 so mid 1990s. I based my intial 1990s on Wayne and Waynetta Slob's sketches.

No link but I'm guessing it is Hooch. No goalpost moving here. Sorry 'bout that.

Data fact from some watch society or summat: underage teenage alcohol consumption increased by 65%-ish between 1992-2001 I have read a short while ago. Hooch wasn't the first alcopop but it is the most famous from that era.

Edited by Kermit8 (08 Apr 2013 5.44pm)

You moved them a decade!

Link inserted and correctly guessed. So what pre dated Hooch then?, I should know it was my prime (underage/cusp of legal) drinking years.

It was all f***ing widgets in the early 90s, ie Beer.

hooch, known locally as pooch as it tasted like dogs pizz.
Definatley kicked off 1989-90.
Knew the guvnor of the cherries well.
He could not buy enough of it.
used to virtually live in the place.
the original pooch was being sold during palaces cup final year,to the degree it was so popular he gave over many of his behind the bar fridges to it.
Definatley the first alco-pop that made fortunes for its producers, the magners of the 90's.
also pizz.

WIki (if accurate) says Hooch was launched in 1995.

You are relying on heresay. I am relying on my own witness testimony. If this were a courtroom trial who would be the most credible?

So I'm supposed to believe you and not others who have lived through the times? I'm putting their opinions against yours.

Mad dog
Am I talking about alcopops or the Thatch?

Wasn't it two dog, with Mad Dog being that alleged fruit flavour drink, which only resembled the fruit in the colour of the drink, and tasted somewhere south of hocked up cough medicine?

There are numerous comments about her attack on the miners but does any one know how many mines have been reopened since 1997. if they were so economical surely Labour would have rushed to appease the unions but they did not proving her right. The seventies were an on going disaster for the Uk with many over manned industries left behind by a new breed of industrial nations with a lower cost base that ultimately led to the death of industry in the Uk. She may have an uncareing bitch but she moved Britain out of the dark ages.

Mines that had lain dormant for 14 years? Be realistic. Coal was always going to be more economical to import, that wasn't the issue, it had been for some time, the issue was that entire regions of the country were entirely dependent on mining for employment and the local economy. The consequence was that those areas were economically destroyed for generations as few jobs existed locally outside of mining, and they were based in fairly remote areas which would not attract new business.

The economical reasons for closing mining was pretty sound, it wasn't ever going to be a profitable enterprise except in a few areas. The social impact of the closure of so many mines in a short space of time, was to consign entire generations to the dole - These areas saw increasing social problems related to poverty, including high suicide rates, substance abuse, crime, violence and a steady decline in education and employment.

I blame MacMillan and Wilson but my father blamed everything on the Beatles.

Well...I'd say WW2 and the understandably spoilt baby boomer generation.

The rise of social liberalism, unrealistic increases in expectations. The increasing divide in life opportunities and pay between the haves and have nots..Profession protectionism..Lots of reasons.

Fully agree and the mines would have closed eventually anyway, but the miners were daft enough to elect Arthur Scargill as their leader, knowing that his agenda was a political one. It was obvious that they would be used as his cannon fodder to overthrow the Government and bring Marxism to the UK.

Of course the aftermath could have been handled much better, but the battle had to be fought, and won.

Defo wrong.
5years(plus) out.
pooch also died a marketing death quickly
don't know why as it was big, a bit like the owners killing off Magners now,or a couple of years ago.
The years are very specific to me, due to a divorce,2nd lease of life etc, besides palaces cup final.
Only drunk it one night, awful stuff.

As I've already posted: Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 and significant increase in teenage drinking starts in the early 90's/alcopops introduction period.

Make of it what you will.

the north / south divide, issue was never greater than the miners closures & strikes.
Many had a feck em attitude to the miners & north in general.
I was very left wing at the time and had (very) minor involvement with fund raising, food parcels etc.for the unions.
Often met a hostile reaction from those, this side of the fence.
knew coppers that had to work up north.
very messy, divisive & wrong.
There was a split across the country.
The selling off of council homes only lined the pockets of individuals, as a one off.
I hated that woman so much at the time.
Little did I know what 'new' labour had in store.
voted tory for the first time in my life at the last election.
Thatcher may be dead but (real) labour died decades ago.
