As predicted Biden and co have made a complete mess of governance. A set of low ability sixth formers could have done a better job of it. Listen to them, Trump this, January 6th that, all they have are tropes to talk about as the poor and the middle classes suffer under their governance. There will be a considerable percent of people suffering Biden regret and I'm looking forward to the kicking they will get in the midterms. Not because I'm any particular fan of the Republican party but because the Democrats are an awful party with even more liars and pole climbers in it. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Jan 2022 3.46pm)

Regardless of whether Trump was responsible for Jan 6 or not I think the Democrats have made a mistake in how they have handled today. This isn't just Biden making a speech across the Democratic party various events and speeches are planned for today. I suspect the public would rather they get on with fixing the country drawing attention to Trump when the investigation has not reached a conclusion just smacks of sour grapes. A bit of dignity was in order, mention it but tell the public you are focused on 2022 and fixing the USA.

I supposed it's unsurprising, given the past attitudes of contributors here, to read the willingness to try to dismiss the importance of the events a year ago. It is nevertheless disappointing to read such things in the UK. We are better than that. That Trump was the spark that lit the flame is undeniable. It was his false claims, which started well before election day, that angered his "base" and created the environment in which the events could occur. Trying to whitewash that into history is dangerous, if lessons are to be learned and repetition avoided. Making sure that the truth about Trump and his, and his immediate circle's, level of involvement in the Jan 6th events is discovered is really important. Whatever it was. I have little doubt Biden would prefer not to see this happening and be able to concentrate solely on recovering from the pandemic, and the mess he inherited from Trump, but he simply cannot stop a Congress investigation. It is also the duty of who-ever is President to ensure events so catastrophic as this be fully investigated. The investigations by the Justice Department and the FBI will take years to fully play out. The current indictments are just the simple ones. The base on which the bigger ones will be built. However much Trump supporters, and Trump apologists, may want it airbrushed out of history, it won't be. This will run and run. In an election year it is also politically important to ensure it does.

Are you really of the belief that the jan 6th event is the most important issue to a majority of Americans? That's what you are actually saying is it? I reckon having enough money to feed their families might be more important tbh. Alongside a functioning police force, safety on the streets and a bit of a positive future. Jan 6th is history; so let the process happen and deal with the now is where I would be!

Jan 6th is history; so let the process happen and deal with the now is where I would be! Dealing with the now is what we all do every day, everywhere. Deciding how our country is run, so tomorrow can be better, is what we do in our reflective moments, which most of us have. Maybe, as a retired man, I have more than some others, much of the time, although I am actually very busy at the moment. Not everyone cares, but that's always been true. Not everyone thinks things through. Many just react to events and stimuli. The jam tomorrow, green grass in the next field and anything is better than this, arguments are as powerful today as they have ever been. These things being true doesn't mean we just stop trying. Avoiding a repeat of Jan 6th 2021 is very important. Not just for the people of the USA but for the reputation of democracy, it's survival and ultimately the future progress and peacefulness of the world. That's why it cannot be brushed under the carpet. Even if some American people wish it was.

Exactly let the process happen and then do the grandstanding when and assuming that Trump is shown in a bad light. Today it might have been better to remember those that died or were injured and ask the public to pause and reflect on what happened.

Didn’t Biden say stuff about healing rifts before he was elected?
