Corbyn, Tony Benn, Denis Skinner and others on the left of the Labour party were always anti-EU as they saw it as a kind of capitalist racket (which of course it is) and, particularly for Benn, that it was undemocratic. Yet the likes of Steeleye on here portray all Brexit supporters as rabid Tories.

The quality of debate in the early 70's far eclipses anything we have seen for a long time. Roy Jenkins and senior labour figures Tony Benn differed even their own cabinet. In the end the vision of Ted Heath won the day, a new direction for the country that had lost an empire and had not found a role. And that's where we find ourselves with this very bad decision.

So if we had an empire.......

The big fan of Mugabe thinks that one of the worst Prime Minsters we ever had, Ted Heath, was a visionary - it figures.

Which ironically is how the referendum played out. The fact that the government chose to honour the result and it wasn’t what you wanted is irrelevant really. . That wasn’t the problem. The problem was that they made commitments to honour the result and were afraid of backtracking despite the knowledge there had been tampering and the closeness. Parliament failed to do their duty aided by Corbyn’s personal distaste and ambition. He, every bit as much as Farage, is the villain in the Brexit pantomime.

Johnson called the 2019 general election because of parliament and the Speaker's attempts to stop Brexit. The election was basically a rerun of the referendum and Johnson won by a landslide. The electorate endorsed the referendum result. The Remainer MPs were decimated.

If the EU toady meeting the King means that a deal can be struck that is acceptable to all sides then I have no problem with the charade. If the meeting takes place and there is no deal then of course it's a nonsense and the King should not get involved.

Heroes don't pursue policies that ruin the economy, lose us friends and set back the future of our children. Tony Blair continues to make more clear-headed sense than almost all of today's politicians.

They could, and should, have ousted him, put in place a short-term PM and government, held a second confirmatory referendum and then started some serious negotiations with the EU the result of which could be presented before a GE. Johnson won because of a marketing slogan, devised by the odious Cummings, "Get Brexit done". That's no way to run a country. Populism replacing serious consideration of the facts has brought us this disaster and the sooner we collectively reverse our stupidity the better.
