You are in serious denial. There is nothing the least bit dumb about asking the question. Nor has anyone drummed up support for any paranoia. Our society has and is evolving, not just here but all over the world, although we are often in the vanguard. That's something to be proud of and not ashamed of. I find your attitude to be disturbing. Maybe you feel "white guilt" but I don't and nor does anyone else I know. To me it's just a term used to cover up racism. There IS widespread racism here. The fact that you want to try to deny it is as disappointing as it is unsurprising. Much of it is held by people without them realising it, or intending it. It is ingrained into our various cultures. We are gradually overcoming it by educating our youngsters and changing attitudes on TV. Doubtless you hate it. I don't. You only need to read the replies on twitter to one of Sainsbury's Christmas ads to see how widespread racism still is here.

I can see why it has evoked some reaction but as always Twitter as a microcosm of society as a whole has managed to segregate all persons into either the extremely racist and contributors to the greatest tragedy of all time with the victims, and the saints arguing their cause, on the other side... I wonder why?
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I didn't target anyone. Only some of the posts, which if you read objectively you too might be forced to wonder about. Sometimes it seems some people let their inner selves slip into view without either meaning to, or perhaps even realising they are there and that the cap fits. Many of us had relatives who served in the war. My own father was on the Prince of Wales when it was sunk off the Malayan coast in 1941. He went in the water but survived. He lost many mates. My mother had no news of him for 6 weeks. The experience affected him deeply for the rest of his life. So I understand very well what the defeat of both the Nazis and Japanese meant. We certainly wouldn't have the freedom of expression that we now have if we had lost. We would also not have many other things. Some of which it seems that some here don't actually like very much. Sorry to hear the traumas your father suffered. I wonder what his views would be about people wanting Churchill’s statue to be removed and the cenotaph being defaced?

I’m bothered about her voice and chucking in a ‘’Literallyyyyyyyyy’’ in a sentence of its own, as a pause, and a ‘’To be fair’’ which, nope, not gonna say it as well, this time is appropriate for complimenting her husband’s gravy but more lazy language used by many today. At the time of black history month, didn’t they release they were going to create ‘safe spaces’ for black staff to be in when not working? Why do PR departments and PR companies get this so wrong so often? Jumping on the BLM wagon before they gave themselves 3 minutes to check the BLM statements on their websites. I can guarantee a lot of black people view this as the nonsense it is or question how it benefits them in any way. I won’t be surprised if a few more middle class black people actually criticise adverts like this for reasons I’ve said. Edited by Rudi Hedman (16 Nov 2020 1.13pm)

If it had been James Hunt (white), and not Lewis Hamilton (coloured) imagine the adulation the 7th time World Championship F1 holder would receive. Little things show you so much.

I don’t even understand the point here. It could mean anything. But what I do know is that F1 is now a minority viewer sport whereas it used to be a big thing on tv, especially with just 3 Tv channels. Did we celebrate Tyson Fury more than Lennox Lewis or Joshua?

How much adulation would you heap on another multi-millionaire tax exile who constantly talked about how great UKIP are?

He had mixed feelings about Churchill. He respected his leadership qualities but he blamed him for sending the Prince of Wales and Repulse east without air cover. He felt Churchill, as an old navy man, didn't really understand that the age of the battleship was ending and the aircraft carrier replacing them. So he blamed him for the loss of his mates. His biggest regret was never being able to revisit the site so I took it on myself in 2017 when I went to Singapore and laid a wreath on his behalf. He would not have wanted his statue removed, but would probably have wanted his story edited somewhat. He would have been incandescent at the Cenotaph being defaced.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

My dad never got the chance to visit his father’s grave in Italy. It is on my bucket list, would have done it already but unfortunately tourists are warned not to go in view of the mugging etc that are carried out at the cemetery, it is near Naples. Have a photo of the grave.

Hamilton is certainly talented but he has lived most of his working life in Switzerland and Monaco and has never tried to win over the British public outside of the petrol heads. As I don't follow F1 I don't feel anything for him the same as Schumacher.
