Winning elections since WWII by promising to control immigration. Oh, and what about broken promises then ? The Tories are gone cos Nigel & Sharon no longer believe the lies.

Originally the girls were called Rosebuds, but were renamed by Lord Baden-Powell after the girls had complained that they did not like their name. Their name comes from the story "The Brownies" by Juliana Horatia Ewing, written in 1870. In the story two children, Tommy and Betty, learn that children can be helpful brownies (Woodland folk) instead of being lazy boggarts. So I guess it's because the Woodland woke alliance has said it's offence to all the fairyland creatures. Originally posted by cryrst
In Canada they are renaming the brownies aged 7-9 as this is offensive apparently. Edited by Apollofuzz (17 Jan 2023 2.32pm)

Yep, I think the latest Tory concern is adding trans to their 'no conversion therapy allowed' bill. Social liberals, not conservatives.....being two degrees less degenerate than the mainstream left doesn't cut it for me. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Jan 2023 3.43pm)

Here's one for you lovers of the BBC. More fall out from Ken Bruce being replaced at Radio 2. I have some sympathy with the beeb as most radio stations replace their lineups without quite he same fuss. What is telling is the number of complaints (100) the Mail is bigging it up but actually if I was the BBC it would make my point. If only 100 people complained then I guess it confirms that they were right to let him go its hardly a backlash.

It’s the only time I listen to a BBC radio show and that’s only really because of pop master. Rest of the time it’s Absolute Rock or anything playing 60s, 70s, 80s music. Bruce will be missed but what has really screwed radio 2 is its insistence on trying to appeal to a younger audience. I thought that’s what radio 1 is for.

I don't listen to the station but isn't the point about golden oldies is that you have to move with your audience. For my age group oldies would be the sixties and seventies to a 40yo it would be the nineties. Surely as your audience grows old and dies you have to move the dial forward. I think the issue for the BBC is not pensioning off all these old white males but it's who they replace them with.

Its not the bbc but commercial channels, that when they advertise life insurance etc for 50-80yo the free gift card is usually for Marks n Sparks! im approaching 70 & have never shopped in their stores, Primarni etc yes, tho we do have a C&A's where i am. Guess im asking is why do they (bbc/itv etc) think that we oldies have to be in these stereotypical groups, are any of other HOLer's in this age group do what is expected by the marketeers etc.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Would you listen to 60’s, 70’s, 80s when music was decent and mostly written by the bands themselves or the modern crap where songs are written for performing seals or to a music college formula. I know what I’d rather listen to and can’t really understand what current music is supposed to be. There certainly doesn’t seem to be the same innovation there used to be where distinct styles were created decade by decade. If BBC radio 2 do not wish to cater for 40-70 year olds now I have no idea who they should be appealing to because there are plenty of other stations covering ‘present day’ music.
