The way some post on here, despite the faux patriotism, you could be forgiven for concluding that they would actually have been happier if we had lost the war. No immigrants with unacceptable skin colours or religious beliefs. No leftists. A paradise for some? Pretty low imo. I don’t know if you have included me in this but I find this quite insulting, having lost a grandfather in Italy fighting for our freedom. Also lost relatives in concentration camps.

After seemingly not liking how Teddy interpreted his words he apparently has no issues interpreting the words of others himself. I'm of the opinion that once the war started we had to win it......I just regret that the war started.

My dad had to leave school and start work at 14, to support his 4 younger siblings, after his father was killed. Who really wanted that? Still at least his sacrifice allowed our freedom of speech

Well, apparently you don’t know what it means. There are some pretty strange assertions there! Just because you disagree with my view doesn't mean I don't know the meaning of the word. Nobody has had any need to do any research on Trump. Unless you lived in isolation for the last few years it was impossible to miss him and I don't know anyone at all who doesn't have an opinion about him. None! Nor do they just care what "makes them look good"! What a daft idea. People are mostly genuinely very concerned. A few are impressed. As in this unusual echo chamber. The idea that people "don't give a toss" is simply untrue in my experience. Maybe you live in another universe but it's not the one I am in. People care about our standing in the world. They care that the traditional leader of the western world is such a lying, unreliable, selfish prat and welcome his removal. Not because they are "Democrats" or "Lefties", but because normality will be restored.

Your experience doesn’t seem to include anyone worried about losing their job or how to feed their kids or anything else in the middle of a pandemic except the fact a man they don’t know has been President of a country in which they don’t live. Daft idea? Facebook users live for “likes”.

I didn't target anyone. Only some of the posts, which if you read objectively you too might be forced to wonder about. Sometimes it seems some people let their inner selves slip into view without either meaning to, or perhaps even realising they are there and that the cap fits. Many of us had relatives who served in the war. My own father was on the Prince of Wales when it was sunk off the Malayan coast in 1941. He went in the water but survived. He lost many mates. My mother had no news of him for 6 weeks. The experience affected him deeply for the rest of his life. So I understand very well what the defeat of both the Nazis and Japanese meant. We certainly wouldn't have the freedom of expression that we now have if we had lost. We would also not have many other things. Some of which it seems that some here don't actually like very much.

That though has nothing whatsoever with their ability to care about Trump and his behaviour. You seriously under-estimate people. I use FB. So do most of my family. None of us care a toss about "likes". So for someone who is normally one of the better posters here you are having a bad evening. You are wrong.

Where did you get that dumb idea from? The simple fact is that Leftists, Liberals and their ilk have used the atrocities of WW2 as an excuse to drum up modern day paranoia in the same way that slavery has lead to an absurd level of White guilt among the easily indoctrinated. Do you need any more evidence that activism doesn't care about the real world? You are in serious denial. There is nothing the least bit dumb about asking the question. Nor has anyone drummed up support for any paranoia. Our society has and is evolving, not just here but all over the world, although we are often in the vanguard. That's something to be proud of and not ashamed of. I find your attitude to be disturbing. Maybe you feel "white guilt" but I don't and nor does anyone else I know. To me it's just a term used to cover up racism. There IS widespread racism here. The fact that you want to try to deny it is as disappointing as it is unsurprising. Much of it is held by people without them realising it, or intending it. It is ingrained into our various cultures. We are gradually overcoming it by educating our youngsters and changing attitudes on TV. Doubtless you hate it. I don't.
