agree completely. We are going through a unique set of circumstances and I don't rule anything out in terms of a realignment, but what is clear is that the Conservatives understand the difference between a party of government and a party of protest. What is also clear is that the Labour Party belongs to its members, not its MPs (irrespective of how deluded or disingenuous the members may be). So if there is to be a split, the rank and file membership must retain the name and the infrastructure. It is for the PLP to split and set up a new structure. I was a very early SDP convert after the last Labour schism and genuinely believed it would work - I was wrong them but maybe the situation is different now. What is certain is that none of the main parties (in England) have ever been at such a collectively low ebb and disunited. If I wanted to take a punt, then Andy Burnham leading a social-democratic alliance in the next election would be my bet. I'm not putting my money where my mouth is though. The problem for any new party is the first past the post system.

I hope you are right for it is desperately needed. The centre represents by far the greatest majority view in our country. Most of us are neither far right, or far left. Labour have just committed suicide. It is now a club run by it's far left membership and not a political party, whose MPs represent their constituents. It has to split, for everyone's benefit. They are now the left wing equivalent of the BNP on the right. Noisy but unelectable. The Tories are little better. The divisions are there too, although a semblance of unity is being maintained at the moment. That unity will be severely tested in the coming months. I hope their left wing splits away too and a genuine party of the centre emerges.

It is a very sad state of affairs when I think that Theresa May in the UK and Hillary Clinton in the US, are the best realistic options at the moment. I hope they will both exceed my expectations!

How many Corbyn fans will pay the £25 on the 18h-19th July to be able to vote for him?
