agree completely. We are going through a unique set of circumstances and I don't rule anything out in terms of a realignment, but what is clear is that the Conservatives understand the difference between a party of government and a party of protest.

What is also clear is that the Labour Party belongs to its members, not its MPs (irrespective of how deluded or disingenuous the members may be). So if there is to be a split, the rank and file membership must retain the name and the infrastructure. It is for the PLP to split and set up a new structure.

I was a very early SDP convert after the last Labour schism and genuinely believed it would work - I was wrong them but maybe the situation is different now. What is certain is that none of the main parties (in England) have ever been at such a collectively low ebb and disunited.

If I wanted to take a punt, then Andy Burnham leading a social-democratic alliance in the next election would be my bet. I'm not putting my money where my mouth is though.

The problem for any new party is the first past the post system.
I wonder if some of the Labour moderates/Blairites would be happier in the Tory Party.
They would have to embrace Brexit of course.
If the Tory Party even dreams of backtracking on that then UKIP will benefit and some Tories could defect.

Yet he is the only moderate who hasn't resigned from the shadow front bench.

He was my tip before the recent developments and I do wonder if he is 'doing a theresa' and waiting for things to calm down and present himself as the unity candidate.

I hope you are right for it is desperately needed. The centre represents by far the greatest majority view in our country. Most of us are neither far right, or far left. Labour have just committed suicide. It is now a club run by it's far left membership and not a political party, whose MPs represent their constituents. It has to split, for everyone's benefit. They are now the left wing equivalent of the BNP on the right. Noisy but unelectable.

The Tories are little better. The divisions are there too, although a semblance of unity is being maintained at the moment. That unity will be severely tested in the coming months. I hope their left wing splits away too and a genuine party of the centre emerges.

It is a very sad state of affairs when I think that Theresa May in the UK and Hillary Clinton in the US, are the best realistic options at the moment.

I hope they will both exceed my expectations!

How many Corbyn fans will pay the £25 on the 18h-19th July to be able to vote for him?

The so called "Posters and Placades" brigade or indeed a protest movement.Destined never to gain power under Corbyn.

I have seen jeremy corbyn play a few times. A trick left wing- back who can outmanouevre defences at times. One to watch.

I actually think Corbyn is probably more electable than Angela f*cking Eagle.

Both of their chances of winning a General Election are somewhere between Zero and Nought.

The vote is only open to members who were paid up as of Feb.
