Just heard Jo Swinson give an appalling interview, she is standing for the Lib Dem leadership. I hope for all Lib Dem voters she doesn't get it. She was asked a simple question and completely failed to answer it. I could have put forward a better case for the EU than her. Question: What would you say to a leaver to persuade them to change their mind about the EU. Answer: (paraphrase) I think voting to leave was the wrong decision. Question; Yes we know what you think but the question was how do you persuade a leaver to change their mind. Answer: (paraphrase) We know a lot more today that we did in 2016.. waffle continued along the lines "they're wrong". If I was a Remainer I would be cringing she didn't put forward one reason why we should stay in the EU e.g. trade will suffer, freedom of movement is a virtue not a sin, we can reform the EU from within etc. When are Remainers going to learn if they want to win the argument you have to put forward an argument. They failed to do that convincingly in 2016 and they are still failing to do it today. I am sure the Lib Dems can do better than this candidate.

And on the subject of Leadership contests Mark Harper (who?) is the twelfth candidate to announce for the Tory Leadership. So I guess we can call then the "dirty dozen".

Let's hope it works. He would be a disaster as PM.

The problem is its not a full whopper of a lie though! We pay a fee to be in the EU? Yes or no

The so called 'traditional conservative' supports nonsense court trials for dodgy political claims. But just because its good for his own 'remain' position The so called conservative views the only likely Tory who could easily create an actual Conservative majority in the commons as a 'disaster'. Sure, I could understand you preferring other candidates but a 'disaster'? Along with your other dodgy claims Its just another dent in your nonsense claims about being a conservative. If I asked you where your politics differed from any of the self avowed supporters of the left on this platform I'd be very interested to know.

I'd say a good half of representatives from the left in parliament aren't the best minds on the left.....they are quota picks and look good but this weaker commitment to meritocracy shows when higher level mental stuff is required. They show that they aren't there but they always push themselves forward because no on within their politics has the balls to say it. Edited by Stirlingsays (31 May 2019 12.40pm)
