It's all about perceptions. They will try to create an artificial reality which runs parallel to actual reality, so they can continue to broadcast their insidious propaganda and then air brush the fallout.

But only a minority think it's very important...a little less than the people who oppose it.

So really this gesture at best carries tepid support.

Essentially both the FA and the players have decided to put politics into the game. That polling shows that they are in the minority when they consider it important.

This was their decision, they introduced the division.

If they want their political free speech then they should put up with the free speech of those who don't want it in the game.

This is what happens when you make the stupidest imaginable decisions and the try to pretend that everyone supports them.

UEFA back tracking & banning the Ukraine shirt because it was deemed political (or it pissed of the Russians)
There needs to be consistency from them.
