so what is Roy offering now with just 18 matches to go? His body language in the post match last night.

It wasn’t that long ago we were scrambling a result against Sheffield Wednesday to stay in the Championship! There are a lot and I mean a lot of people on here that have lost all perspective about the club, the Manager, the Directors and the quality of player we can afford to buy. We are punching above our weight period. I’m confident we will stay in the division and Roy will go and we will get a younger, hungrier manager. But at the moment I wouldn’t want Roy to go.

Of course managers are responsible for individual performances. It’s called man management, understanding form and team selection. If Townsend wasn’t on the pitch to start with then he wouldn’t have been able to give the ball away 22 times. Whose decision was that? He has been shocking recently but our manager just does the same thing with the same players every week hoping for a different result. I really don’t get what you are trying to prove by your failure to acknowledge any fault of the manager for anything. It is not pant wetting which is a vile insult anyway and one you should have grown out of using yourself. You mind your blood pressure.

Well guess what last night they just made it worse. I get Hodgson when dull efficiency gets the job done, but when it doesn’t then there’s nothing left but a miserable team performance and more doom and gloom afterwards. I am crying out for some enthusiasm, up beat press conferences, belief in the team, something to get excited about. I’ll take any manager out there who can give us that.

Not sure if any one has referred to Roys post match after WSpam last night. Thats defeated body language..... and sadly he looks very tired.. He need a nice break. Thanks for the patch work, but when you dont develop a team like Stoke found with older players, you sink and look at them now...

Benteke can't be bothered plain and simple... Does anyone else remember Alan Shearer a couple of seasons ago singling out Benteke on MOTD about how he hides behind defenders when crosses are put into the box??

He did appear rather deflated but then again he is manager of a team that was well beaten on the night.

I have been one of the Roy backers because I have honestly felt that stability is the most important thing for us post Covid and while we develop the academy and ground. But I have slowly been coming round to the view that we are no longer stable. We are regressing, I feel like moves like Mateta and Eze are a move by Dougie and SP to progress us but the on pitch regression means we are standing still. I fear we will lose Jairo unless we move quickly and we are more dependent on a midfield all around or over 30 who can’t cut the mustard. How many players are we going to lose because of stagnant football and an inability to change the formula. I think extending RH would be madness and I think we need to make a move at the end of the summer and potentially sooner if we don’t have a good February. Looking at fixtures that’s when we need to pick up the points to get us to 40.

the main criticisms of Roy were all proved correct v west ham - faith in a formation that wasn't working, no plan B when west ham got our measure, substitutions that were too little too late etc We were found out big time yet again, and I don't know about lack of effort but there was a real lack of belief from the players - we were over-run, and players and staff had no answer. I hope we can get another decent player in before the deadline, we should get the points to stay up (12?), but Roy has to go in the summer and I'm sure he will - don't hold your breath waiting for his contract renewal. But a change at this point would be disruptive and a sign of panic. We don't need another Big Mal just now - stick with Bert Head - remember '73! - and that Palace side played much better football than the current lot and got relegated!.

Roy looked terrible in the interview. At his age standing outside on a bitter night with no hat or gloves on is asking for trouble. It is painful watching him. Poor guy needs to think about himself. It appears to be getting the better of him.

You may not agree, but you are wrong to disagree. Encouragement is all a manager can give when a player is over a certain age, as development is beyond the player's capability. If Townsend was 20, he could be improved. But now, he will never increase his speed. He will become less accurate as he ages. As for selecting players, who replaces Townsend? Your assumption of practice on the training field really reveals your limited knowledge of football. Unfortunately you have shown yourself to have a lack of understanding of! football. You seem to be confused on the difference between passing and a players speed deteriorating due to age, which is natural. I didn’t mention speed. Keep up. There’s been plenty of examples of managers improving players. Most recently Darren Bent and Danny Murphy commenting that Gerard Houlier not only had he improved them as people but also made the better football players. Also your just some bloke on the internet, like the rest of us who has an opinion. No need to be a div.

I think you are right, and it will be job done. Hopefully he steps down and everyone gets their wish of a younger more dynamic manager and fast attacking entertaining football. At the moment there isn’t that fan pressure which builds up when the stadium is full, so we are all going to have to suck it up that little bit longer with Roy.
