speroni didn't make a save in the whole first

Apologies to repeat what I said on the Speroni thread but it has relevance to this discussion also..

It was great to see the Palace legend that is Speroni in goal today, and he did a sterling job to come in to the side and do the business.

Its a shame that I have to add anything else to that, as I think Speroni did great today and I really dont want to criticise him, but my hand is forced by the anti-Hennesites, who on a great day for our Club today seem to be exploiting what should be a happy day to further their anti-Hennesey agenda.

I can only imagine the reaction of Brentmiester general et al if Hennessey had let in the goal that Speroni did today. There were a couple of fumbles later on that would also have been lambasted by the afore-mentioned posters.
However, as I said, I think Speroni played great today, He was, is, and will always be a Palace Legend, and we are incredibly lucky to rely upon him as our number two.
Did he do anything to warrant him regaining the number one jersey from Wayne? I dont think so.
Do I think he can do a great job for us if Hennessey's injury persists - Wholeheartedly, yes

But those who claim that the renewed confidence in the side was due to Speroni being in the goal have clearly overlooked Zaha's return...
Although, for sure, Speroni, being a Palace legend, did provide the crowd with a lift.
But lets not forget Roy has just had two weeks to work with the team and implement his tactics which clearly has been effective today.
All in all - a great day.

The bit in bold to me says more about the attitude of quite a few Palace fans who just refuse to get behind players and form a grudge. Is the gap between WH and Speroni big? No, and I'd say WH is probably still a better all round keeper, particularly with his distribution. As has been said, WH would have been slaughtered for conceding that goal yesterday.

That so many Palace fans have taken to singling out a player like that for negative treatment is appalling. It's a ridiculous situation that when weighing up pros and cons of the two we have to factor in that JS will 'give the crowd a lift'. It shouldn't matter who is in goal, we should be able to get behind everyone.

If you think what JS does to lift the crowd and defence isn't important then you don't know too much about football. We're need more leaders and battlers.
