Thoughts on this coverage: [Link] Purely gunning for UKIP or further support that those with these kind of views are more likely to support this party? Or both. Edited by imbored (19 Feb 2015 3.42pm) Purely gunning for UKIP imho. Over privileged public schoolboy is racist is hardly a shocker Given the amount of pictures Farage has had taken in good old traditional British pubs, drinking good old traditional British beer, with good old traditional British salt of the earth types before going to bed with his good old traditional German wife (who I presume he will be kicking out back to Munchen should he ever get UKIP into government) its a pretty good bet he has so far supped and been snapped with 11 paedos, 8 Fully fledged Nazi's, 3 unconvincing weekend cross dressers, 19 sheep worriers and a man who is convinced he is Diane Abbott.
All of the above if was meeting Sir Jim'll And in the same photo if reports are anything to go by.

Even your username is self aggrandising.. "Legaleagle" oh yes, another selfie! ........................................................................................................ At the risk of putting you into a yet further state of total apoplexy at the very thought of me and/or the very thought of me agreeing with you about anything (something I have to take seriously given your user name and that you were posting about me at after 1am today), I couldn't agree more with you that I wish I had another user name.Sad to say,I was so busy taking 25 selfies at the time and sending them to random people, it was the fairly naff best I could come up with on the spur of the moment when I registered ,so guess I'm saddled with it.Though thinking of changing it to either "I'm Bored 2" or in homage to The Who, "Hope I Die Before I Get (To Be Like) Old(Fella)" Still, at least hopefully venting your spleen on me might stop you venting it on someone else you actually come into proper contact with during the night/day, and who might actually take you seriously and be offended,so every cloud has a silver lining. Now,since you are such a good, modest and interesting poster, how about actually posting something about the interesting issues other people are raising on this thread rather than slagging me (zzzzzzz) and so depriving them of the benefit of your undoubted insight and wisdom? Adios mi amigo

Labour betrayed the working classes. Call it betrayal, call it abandonment ultimately it amounts to the same thing. I don't think new Labour abandoned working class voters so much as the "white van man" abandoned Labour, if they ever voted for them in the first place. In reality, a lot of working class people always voted Tory, the Alf Garnets of this world. The Tory working class rejoiced under Maggie, but have now abandoned the Tories as they perceive the current lot to be posh boys who have no appeal to them, and Farage has fashioned his image as a pint and a fag bloke who blames all failings on the EU and immigrants. This plays well to some (around 15%), and reinforces perceptions of nostalgia for a time that never really existed, but doesn't stand up to close scrutiny.
If there were hordes of Eastern European politicians waiting at Sangatte or flying in from Lodz, willing to sit in the Commons for twice the time and half the money instead of them being plumbers they might have understood where these people are coming from on immigration. In reality they are Labour voters by class, Tory by experience and tend to be the people who win or lose you general elections. As Labour / Tories are now finding out as they seem to be the most fertile ground for UKIP Unlike those in the enclaves of the likes of Henley in the blue corner or Sunderland in the Red, where you can, by shaving a monkey, sticking the right coloured rosette guarantees victory they will flip flop between parties dependant on how good / sh*t their personal circumstances have been under the current regime.
I agree with all of your very well made points; except one. Labour (and the Tories) only need to get roughly 40% of the vote in 40% of constituencies to gain a majority. Therefore both parties have no need to go chasing votes that they would only gain by appealing to "white van man" types when by doing so, they could well alienate some or all of the floating voters (and disaffected Liberals) whose support will determine the outcome of the election. Why should Labour pander to (for example)those Chelsea supporters who abused that guy on the train in Paris the other evening? I imagine that they're probably not going to vote but, if they did, which party do you think would gain their support? UKIP support in the polls is falling, other issues are more important. Debate Europe and immigration by all means, but views (as evidenced on this forum) are entrenched and unlikely to be changed by debate. It'll soon be time to vote and we shall see in the outcome how well UKIP do. The election, in my opinion, will be decided by which party gains most support from disaffected Liberals, those are the real floating voters.

Again an absolute cliché of the white working class as racist, narrow minded little Englanders, (and just to remind you so far the only identifiable Chelsea supporter has been an upper middle class public schoolboy from Millfield) that are too stupid and indolent to vote. The paragraph in bold, neatly demonstrating why these normally natural Labour voters no longer are. Labour hasn't 'pandered' to them for years, in fact its ignored them, why start now ? Like I said its far easier for the left to paint this voting demographic as racist and insular and discount them than actually try and win them back or take their legitimate concerns seriously, its far better to sneer down their middle class, right-on, Islingtonian noses at the ageing Bedford rascal and flag of St George in the front garden in Chatham. As for the election, I don't support any party, don't vote so actually don't care. I long ago disengaged from the process so who votes for what and where has absolutely no meaning, however Liberals will now either not vote or go to Labour. Cleggs grasping for power and jumping into bed with the polar opposite of Liberalism has seen to them as a serious political threat for years.
