Well, my take on this. Speroni is actually more of a leader as an individual. His positional sense is good. He is still a decent keeper. Wayne is taller and sometimes better in the area but isn’t totally reliable and seems to lack confidence. Our benchmarks are Bill Glazier, John Jackson and Nigel Martin. Neither of our current keepers is anywhere near. BG is a good poster elsewhere but a man on a mission here. Probably time to let it go.

Solid Performer???? Mate if he was a solid performer, there would not be a thread with more than 2100 posts on him.

Apologies to repeat what I said on the Speroni thread but it has relevance to this discussion also.. It was great to see the Palace legend that is Speroni in goal today, and he did a sterling job to come in to the side and do the business. Its a shame that I have to add anything else to that, as I think Speroni did great today and I really dont want to criticise him, but my hand is forced by the anti-Hennesites, who on a great day for our Club today seem to be exploiting what should be a happy day to further their anti-Hennesey agenda. I can only imagine the reaction of Brentmiester general et al if Hennessey had let in the goal that Speroni did today. There were a couple of fumbles later on that would also have been lambasted by the afore-mentioned posters. But those who claim that the renewed confidence in the side was due to Speroni being in the goal have clearly overlooked Zaha's return...

My main issue with WH is with all the attributes he has he should be much, much better than he is. On paper he is light years ahead of Jules, but I trust JS even at 38 more than I do WH. So ask yourself why a sizeable chunk of fans don't rate WH. And I'd suggest it's because there is no sign of comittment, willingness to put himself in harms way. Palace fans take players who are committed Are you stalking me? Fellaini's free-header was from a couple of yards. Today's was from 12 yards and he was just too slow moving across. Other than that, a few regulation saves. If that had been WH, people wouldn't be enthusing on here like they are. Apparently every goal WH concedes is his fault, but Speroni is only beaten by perfect headers/shots/worldies. I concede JS is by far more popular with fans - mainly because many grew up with him in the Championship when he was very good.

Neither of them are world beaters and its kinda pathetic to argue one is better than the other as on there day there both as good and as poor as the other. That said, the defense IMO don't trust WH and melt on many occasions. Maybe thats WH fault maybe not. But surely after the adulation the players showed to JS at the final whistle, and the fact he didn't really make any mistakes. Then surely he gets another game? And I'd say the same thing if it was the other way round and we'd lost 7 game with JS in goal and WH played the one we won. Sorry but all this we'll maybe Benteke doesn't get back in to the side either then is bolloxs. Anyway luckily Roy will decide, as I have a feeling he's wiser than some on here. It was 8 yards out and in the corner of the net. And if that was WH and people were enthusing, says all you need to know about the quality of WH wouldn't you say? The point you still seem to be missing is WH on paper is a much better player than he is in reality.

The lads did a fantastic job today ALL of them.
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |
