We are expecting an imminent announcement that Theresa May will step down as Conservative leader on 10 June. In terms of her successor, what is likely is a fluid situation in terms of the Parliamentary stage of the contest. I am informed that thus far Jeremy Hunt has 27 MP supporters, Boris Johnson has 19, Dominic Raab has 13, Michael Gove has 12, Sajid Javid has 10 and no-one else is on double figures, at least yet. But of course there are many more MPs in the Conservative Party and I can only re-iterate that the situation will remain fluid and the final say goes to the party members like myself. Jeremy Hunt is about as sure an election loser as there can be. But given the Tory MP's record on leadership choices I'm not surprised he's in the lead so far. I just get a feeling that the party members are not all quite like you. You are unique, perhaps even special.

Edited by Willo (24 May 2019 9.17am) I believe Boris is not liked by the MPs but loved by party members. For him to succeed the MPs will need to hold their noses. Well as the Tories are about to be humiliated in the European elections I suspect that self preservation will overcome any misgivings they have. Boris maybe a buffoon but he has the X factor and knows how to win elections. The rest of the field remind me of one of the seven dwarves "dopey".

Very kind of you to describe me in such terms but at the end of the day I am a mere midge in the swarm and no threat to MENSA. Boris Johnson commands a great deal of support amongst party members and even though I have reached the ripe age of 66, many members are somewhat 'North' of this !

Agreed. I also have a problem with ex pats voting in UK elections. They have left this country so should not have the right to decide what happens here. I think it is a bit grey area. I disagree due to below reasons: - I don`t build a direct correlation between paying tax and voting. Voting is not only about how tax is spent but also how the country is ruled from all aspects. - For eg, i am not citizen but paying tax for 5 years and i don`t have a right to vote (normally) Once i become citizen (next year), i don`t position myself to have more right to have a word for UK when compared to 100% British person who migrated to Spain for retirement or work. Yes, the fact is they may be away from real paint point of the country because they don`t live in UK, however i think there are many people living in the country who has not sufficient understanding of what is happening as well

Boris Johnson commands far more support amongst the members than he does amongst his fellow MPs but as you asserted, the MPs might well look at the broader picture and decide that his box-office appeal would be an asset against Corbyn at a General Election. What is a constant in a Conservative leadership contest since the mid-60s is that the favourite doesn't win.

I have always been a big Boris fan and wanted him to lead us out of the EU as I think that if he had been PM we would probably be out by now. However I wonder if his chances may have been spoiled somewhat by his time as Foreign Secretary in which he hardly covered himself in glory
