Just been and voted, and based on my sample size of one, boy you Brexit lads are in trouble. Your sample size wouldn’t hurt me, sunshine.

Additional disclaimer: I live in proper Brexit countryside and my vote is going to mean f*ck all. Nicer though isn’t it? Edited by Rudi Hedman (23 May 2019 10.26pm)

A lot of noise #deniedthevote. I expect there will be an investigation but in my experience most people who complain are actually at fault. If you are an EU citizen in the UK and want to vote here not only do you have to register for the vote but you also have to tell your local council that you will not vote in your home country. How many have not bothered to register or not registered correctly? Every year people would tell me "but I registered last year why am I not on the electoral roll" BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO REGISTER EVERY YEAR ITS NOT A ONE TIME THING. Or I am registered but just moved home recently "well then go to the polling station of your old home." Or my favourite involves university students who are supposed to be bright? I registered at my university but the election is in the holidays so I thought I would vote in my home borough "Sorry no" Or vice versa. If there is a systemic problem it's down to the local council rather than the government. Some councils are more efficient than others. My gut feel is that when the dust settles individual councils may have screwed up but despite the noise the number of complaints will probably be no worse than at other elections.

Yep, agree, if there has been some conspiracy to deny legitimate people votes then that's worthy of concern and redress. Though like you say I suspect this is more a factor of council and citizen unreadiness. My views on the legitimacy of allowing EU citizens a vote on UK representation in the EU is another thing entirely.

They have left this country so should not have the right to decide what happens here.

Yep, though I would have a timer on it as working aboard or study aboard isn't the same as permanently buggering off....perhaps four years.....with perhaps a six month wait after you return so you can't just nip back for a two week holiday to register and vote.

Of course which is why I used the term ex pat I don't consider students or soldiers posted abroad as ex pats.
